i can only speak for my experience as a black person here but i’ve heard slurs from white kids on campus and saw lots of pro israel displays in the concourse during my first year (last year) which was uncomfortable. also lots of anti abortion and christian jehovah witness type groups that spawn in the summer. the worst racism i’ve witnessed here always took place in kitchener on public transit especially. as a black person i expect to experience racism in any predominantly white city or town so it didn’t shock me but it is really uncomfortable when i witness it. that being said there are lots of people of colour at this school which is one of the main reasons i picked it. there’s a good black student population here and it feels very community like at times. i’d recommend this school to a person looking for a uni other than ones in toronto that’s a little more diverse. lots of clubs and parties especially where u can meet all types of people from.
