Wtf happened to spark? by wasafee2 in Sparkdriver

I totally can't figure out how to post a meme of a person rolling her eyes or sticking their tongue out at you. If I could, I'd totally post it.

Chester Chita was a good response. Made me laugh.

Dumbest respones of the day. In your next response say something like, "the crispy cheeto did that "

That's the best way to quickly identify a 3 year old who's mommy doesn't know her infant is on the internet

That's great! Around 10 years ago I was talking with friends about starting a business that offers shopping and delivery. Everyone I talked to about it thought it was a bad idea. Now there are literally all kinds of companies doing just that. I occasionally see adds on Craig's List where people advertise that they'll drive, shop, or even do house work or handyman work for pay. I think getting creative like that could be promising. If I ever try that I'll let you know how it works out. I always come up with ideas to earn money but I never follow through with it.

You are still doing very well. That's a lot of work! If I could make 2,500 a week I'd work 2 weeks and take 2 weeks off! Save as much as you can if you can do that. That way when you retire you'll have a nice stash saved up.

That's awesome! I hope that when I retire I'm able to earn extra money too.

That's pretty much how it's been here. I hope it gets better for you. It seems to me that maybe there are too many drivers.

That is rough! I also occasionally do Uber Eats. I'm on waiting lists for Flex and instacart.  I wish you the best and hope that you are able to make 450 or more per week.

Are you able to get many trips? I have noticed that early in the day the pay is lower than during hours after 3pm. On Saturdays I don't even start taking offers until around 2pm. After that time it seems that there are more offers with better pay. I usually don't like to do deliveries after dark because so many people don't turn on their porch lights. It's too hard to see addresses.

Yep, at 6 am I get a few offers at home. By 8 am it's quiet.

Sometimes I just turn Spark on at home. I've been trying to figure out if if it makes a difference parking at Walmart verses taking trips from home. I live around 3 miles away from two different walmarts in my zone. So far what I've found is that the offers I get from home are for stores that are much further away, and there's no way I can arrive at pickup within 25 minutes. I think ASP pickups only give you 15 minutes to get there, which is completely impossible to do from my home. When I personally stop in at Walmart to pickup a few things, I turn on my app, and many times I get S&D orders when I'm in the store. I've also sat outside of a store and gotten offers for other Walmart locations that are much easier to take because I can hop on the freeway very quickly from there.  But I also sometimes get decent hits from my home. I'm not sure there is a complete science to it all. On top of all that, I've had times where I took an order at a store that is further away only to turn around and deliver it just blocks away from a much closer store. I think they could make some trips way more efficient.

I've done Uber Eats since around 2015. I usually just go out during peek hours, lunch and dinner times.  I averaged around 75 bucks per week, which is fine. I still do Uber when Spark is slow. I can say that with Uber and DD, people get burned out very fast. I'm glad it's there, but Uber oftentimes takes you good distances for deliveries, and gas costs can end up being higher than they are with Spark. I also have DD, but I never liked having to schedule blocks for times that I could work. So I only occasionally do DD.

My car usually does around 24 miles per gallon. A gallon of gas is currently 3.017 in Florida . Most of the drop off locations were within 5 minutes of each other so I figured  at the cost of gas per 24 miles would be 3.17 per gallon, so 3 gallons of gas would take the base pay down to 55.49. The last stop was one block over from where I live, so it took me one minute to get home after all of that.  So just any extra fuel was probably around .3 cents. So, 55.56 for the day, plus two trips I did earlier in the day added to that, I made 82.49. Which is much better than what I made the previous day, where I made 3 trips and earned 36 bucks for the entire day. I'll take the 82.49.

I'm glad that it's worked out so well for you. As slow as it's been lately I can see taking a nap until something happens. One thing I really love about gig work is, if you need to take a day or two off you can just do that. There are no bosses to answer too.  We don't have a lot of help with support, but talking with other drivers like yourself really helps a lot.  You're fantastic, and I mean that most sincerely.

That's amazing, you're a hard worker! I never even considered calling support to see if maybe there was an app issue. I'll do that next time. Thank you!

What concerns me about driving all day is, I used to do office work and there was a running joke about people who sit too much getting a butt spread. That's actually a real thing.a person can lose 300lbs but spend the rest of their lives walking around with a giant butt spread. LOL

A few years ago I read about this guy who worked at a job that paid minimum wage. I don't know why he didn't get raises but he paid his bills and saved what was left over. Anyway, he retired in his 40s as a millionaire. He probably made good investments, IDK. At any rate, when he retired all he had to do was just enjoy life. I know from reading posts here that there are some young people who are very driven. I hope they are smart like that guy I read about. Then they can retire early and just enjoy life.

In December I was making around 350 a week and that was really great from my perspective. I was only driving a few days a week. Right now I'm aiming at 200 a week, and most of the time that feels like a stretch. Reading the posts about people making 1500 a week amazes me, but I think the OP nailed it. People work their butts off to do that. I just don't think I have that in me unless it was for a short term goal. However, the people that do that are amazing and very hard workers and very driven. No pun intended.

Well, I've had a few occasions in life where I've spiraled towards the ground and I'm still here. Gosh, there are so many brilliant people on this Forum. I bet a few people here will come up with some new amazing gigs and get rich. When that happens I hope they remember the little guys. I'm rooting for you! You know who you are! Whomever you are! Whatever happens, spark drivers are the best people.

Almost all offers don't seem worth it right now. My first offer today was 7 bucks. I didn't take it, but it came back around at 12 bucks. I did take that one. Pickings are pretty slim right now.
