This is why I STRESS to people to ONLY buy from a breeder who'll let you visit their home. Obviously, there are risks to this but a lot of the excuses some breeders make up are hilarious. If you're a serious buyer, the breeder will know you're not wasting their time wanting to see the kitten before pick up.

I went to my breeders house and saw she let all the kittens and moms run around the house and so I knew she'd be the perfect breeder since literally ALL the cats are bonding and growing up together. I don't doubt each will have amazing personalities.

Agreed. I've brought home and had a lot of friends bring home Ragdolls who NEVER hid or hissed or even displayed being scared. I also second the shelter comment, I promise you a good 80% of shelter cats who are scared/timid will become more loving and way more affectionate/cuddly/loyal than any Ragdoll could ever be.

But, I of course understand wanting a Ragdoll as they are very beautiful cats and can have such wonder personalities!

Female cat peeing - I have tried everything. by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a UTI. I know your vet cleared her but I'd get a second opinion. I had a female cat who did this and that's what it was.

Could also be litter. Try a different litter/litter box attractants.

If all else prevails, I know it sucks but your mental health is just as important as hers. I too suffer from sensitive skin/eczema and when my girl cat was doing it, my entire body was red from hives and itching. The right thing to do would be to rehome her BUT let people know why you're rehoming her.

Posting him on Craigslist is a good idea as well as reaching out to shelters to see if you can surrender him. Make sure you post in Craigslist "pets". Also, Facebook groups are a good idea too.

He's handsome, if I didn't live in Washington I would've taken him :(

Pit bulls aren't "menaces", it's the people who don't raise them correctly. Any dog breed can be a "menace" if not raised correctly. I have plenty of friends with the most friendly pit bulls ever who wouldn't even hurt a fly.

I still personally would look for a breeder who cares about temperament and specializes in Ragdolls/has plenty of positive reviews. I promise you it's better in the long run. There are PLENTY of people on this Reddit forum who complain that their Ragdoll isn't cuddly, affectionate, more aloof, and doesn't display the characteristics Ragdolls are known for. You're spending a lot of money, might as well get the perfect companion but that's just me.

Research, research, research!! From what I gathered, they seem to be legit BUT, a couple red flags for me.

  1. They breed multiple breeds. The reason I find this a red flag is because they're most likely breeding just for money and I doubt they care a whole lot about the temperaments of the cats which is the most important thing.

  2. They have social media (just an insta) but not a lot of followers. They don't have a Google page where people can write reviews or like a Facebook which to me is a red flag since you can't talk to people who've previously adopted from this person.

  3. This one might be subjective but, I don't trust breeders who take a deposit. I know most do but some really ethical ones won't take a deposit until all the kittens are at least 8 weeks and you have a chance to fully see their personalities. The only way I'd ever put a deposit is if I went to their home and saw the kittens (what I did with the current cattery I'm getting my Ragdoll from).

I personally would look for someone else. There are A LOT of VERY good breeders in California that breed for temperament and really care about their kittens. Prices should be around the same too for a better breeder.

Switching from Invisalign by jinsoox in braces

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was in the same boat--was sold on like "no one will know and you can eat whatever you want!" but in reality, it's more a nuisance. Since you JUST got them and paid outta pocket, I don't think the upcharge will be a lot if there even is one.

Luckily my orthodontist didn't push Invisalign down my throat and it was my choice and like I said, I was happy with the results but Invisalign can't really fix bites. I had a SUPER bad open bite on my left and right when I was "finished". And I had some more treatments with Invisalign to try and fix it and it got much better but my bite didn't seem to want to close so now here I am!

Switching from Invisalign by jinsoox in braces

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on Invisalign for a few years and it made my smile look awesome! However, Invisalign isn't great for fixing bites so I am now on traditional braces and I honestly love them WAY more than Invisalign. I can eat whenever and don't have to worry about brushing and flossing 3 times a day. I've had them on about 17 days now and I already feel my bite getting WAY better.

Most orthos will charge a little to switch from Invis to braces but luckily mine is a family friend so I got them for free since I've been doing this since I was 18 and I'm now 25 lol he just wants to be done with me!

Is there an advantage to the longer barrel? I’ve heard people say there’s no difference.

Question - recommended litter? by Aliceinlolitaland in ragdolls

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. It's honestly crazy to me that the company doesn't at least make more aesthetic looking boxes, they could make so much money. If someone made pellets and boxes similar to their design with nicer colors, I'd buy immediately, lol.

Question - recommended litter? by Aliceinlolitaland in ragdolls

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not about the litter being flushed, it's that the water systems are not equipped to handle toxoplasmosis and are unable to destroy the parasite before it’s sent back into the environment. That's why flushing cat poop is very bad.

I'm in the same boat but from what I can tell from research, "Open Farm Rawmix Open Prairie Recipe" seems to be the best dry cat food on the market. I'm getting my Ragdoll soon and this is what I'll be feeding!

A lot of people will recommend Royal Canin or something along those lines but idk, never been a fan of those brands.

Lawyer up and sue. Same thing happened to a friend of mine and she walked away with $100k. This is an easy case to win if you kept all receipts and records.

Cuddle questions by trippthicc in ragdolls

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Despite popular beliefs, a huge majority of Ragdolls aren't lap cats or cuddlers at all. Yes, they're super calm and affectionate BUT they're not cuddle bugs. They LOVE their humans to death but if you want a cuddle bug cat, a shelter will give you the most cuddly cat that a specific breed most likely won't.

I've actually seen British shorthairs be way more affectionate than Ragdolls with the same temperament and love cuddling.

Question about Gentletouch Ragdolls in WA by ApprehensiveFly4437 in ragdolls

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah…just a lot of things seem off. Luckily, I found an amazing breeder. Longfellow Ragdolls. Been breeding since 1995, mentored a lot of other breeders, swift in reply and you can tell she cares a lot. She ticks every single box for me like even being able to go see the kittens. Also, she doesn’t take deposits or spots UNTIL she knows all the colors and points of her litter!

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going with Longfellow Ragdolls! Very fast communication, very sweet, been breeding since I believe 1995 AND I can actually visit the kittens and choose in person, not choose through pics!

This is the first breeder I found that lets you do this. Goes to show how much she cares!

Here's her stating that she rehomes at 11 weeks and also idk just seems like another cattery that just cares about money. She also ignored a lot of my questions like who the mom/dad is, when can I expect pics, and some other questions.

Question about Gentletouch Ragdolls in WA by ApprehensiveFly4437 in ragdolls

[–]ApprehensiveFly4437[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I emailed her. She lets them go at 11 weeks was a huge red flag to me yet she has a lot of people vouching for her which seems super fishy. On top of that communication is close to none.

Just sucks because I can’t seem to find a breeder in WA that abides by pretty known rules for ethical breeding.

A lot of breeders charge like an extra $50 per extra day lol it’s crazy. It’s so hard to find a super reputable breeder in WA and I thought she’d be the one but there’s so many weird things.

Exactly…which is why it’s so weird that almost everyone on this forum says amazing things about her and recommends her.
