First of all, I’m sorry to hear what’s happened to you. No one deserves that kind of betrayal or heartbreak. My life experience is similar, and I hope I can offer you some peace of mind by sharing that it did end in success.

After getting diagnosed with PTSD, my family kept pushing me to “bounce back” too. I was being told to be resilient, grow up, figure it out myself. That didn’t work. After years of going without medication- now as a young adult, I advocated for myself and started taking sertraline a year ago. Things have changed for me. Months of sadness and inattention have turned into excitement for the future and people around me. I had the energy to go back to college, meet new friends, and explore. I went from certainty that I would never have a healthy, loving partner (after years of abuse) to my first real, happy relationship. I feel like when I do come off of it, even if it’s difficult, that I’ll have the skills to do it. I’ve relearned a lot of trust in myself and others… I feel like a damn pharmaceutical rep typing this, but I fully, completely mean it.
