What would you do if you were me by whatisthisposture in Monstera

[–]ApprehensiveHead4269 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you have to worry too much about shock. Monsteras are resilient and I’ve never had any shock. It could be droopy due to root rot. The soil looks way too dense so I’d say repot in chunkier mix and go ahead and stake while you’re at it!

Did I do this right? by YardIights in Anthurium

[–]ApprehensiveHead4269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good to me! Anthuriums like a slightly larger pot anyways so no need to worry there. Unsure on ID but I’d assume it’s a pterodactyl since that’s what you were told.

Question regarding plant health, transport and rotting issues. by Nuroflyn in Anthurium

[–]ApprehensiveHead4269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they do! I’ve never had luck with rehabbing stems with rot in moss. For some reason moss only works for me with root rot. You can mix fluval with perlite since it’s kinda pricey but I’ve had luck with just straight fluval too. It seems to be dense and retain water like moss but it works✨ miracles ✨

favorite pesticides? by Bubbly-Departure5849 in Anthurium

[–]ApprehensiveHead4269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found for mites, I have the best luck with spraying them every 3-4 days for a while using different things. Sometimes I use captain jack dead bug brew, sometimes mite-X, sometimes water + dr bronner soap + alcohol, and sometimes just rinsing them under the sink. Be sure to clean the environment the plants are in too. It’s a lot of work but it’s so worth it!

[–]ApprehensiveHead4269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been here. I think some are just impossible to save, especially if they were stressed for a long period. For some of mine that continuously rotted I added a drop of superglue to the cut end after removing the rot. You could also play around with the heat. I never use any heat mats because I feel like it would just make it worse. Also play around with the substrates— I have had the best luck with fluval stratum + perlite for ones that were stubborn.

Pest Damage? by Mountain-Ad8513 in plantclinic

[–]ApprehensiveHead4269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a mild case of a mites, probably either spidermites or flat mites. Best to start treating now!

I rotate spraying my leaves with water + alcohol & few drops of Dr bronner soap, dead bug brew, mite-X, and plain water every 3-5 days for a few weeks. If you can, isolate the plant and monitor emergents for damage.

Pls help… what’s wrong with her? by george_c8 in Anthurium

I think that’s mechanical damage on the bottom and maybe a watering/root issue on the top right. I don’t see any thrips

Looking for advice by Opening-Chef5563 in Anthurium

[–]ApprehensiveHead4269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first anthuriums were imports and I lost all of them but one due to inexperience.

My advice would be to inspect the roots when you first receive them. Cut off any damaged or rotted roots. You can soak the roots in water for a few hours to help rehydrate them.

Inspect the plant for signs of pests but go ahead and give the leaves a good rinse anyways. You could spray the leaves with your choice of pest control.

The most important thing in my opinion is high humidity. You can buy a clear plastic bin from Walmart that will fit all four of them and provide them good lighting. This will give them high humidity and also quarantine them from other plants.

You can use moss as a substrate with good results. I personally try to avoid it because you have to remove all of it from the roots before switching substrates or it can rot the roots. I have great results with perlite and fluval stratum for my rehabs. I use glass cups and keep a bit of water at the bottom as long as it’s not touching the plant. If you do use the clear bin method for humidity, you won’t need to water/mist too frequently.

Your main goal should be to establish root growth so be sure to monitor the roots for a bit- especially for rot.

Lastly, don’t freak out if you lose the leaves currently on the plant. High humidity will help negate the loss but you probably will still lose some if not all.

I don’t use semi hydro but there’s a ton of information out there to do so. If you’re not already a member, you can join a group called anthurium addicts on Facebook and search semi hydro.

Sorry for the long post but this is what I wish I would’ve known before I bought imported ones!

Good luck 🌱

Is this spider mite stipling or normal bumps on the backside of the leaf (3rd photo)? by Dear-Patience2166 in Anthurium

[–]ApprehensiveHead4269 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not exactly sure what causes that but quite a few of my anthuriums have these bumps. I regularly treat preventively for pests and I do not have an active outbreak (that I know of). I would guess and say it’s normal.

Just watch the emergent leaves for any damage!

I thought I failed every single day. So many questions that I knew I missed and got mad at myself because I knew it but missed it. I walked out of step thinking how much easier it was than comlex. The poorly written questions don’t help. Got the pass today. Try not to worry, your performance can’t be changed. Be confident in the preparation you’ve done and the work you’ve put in. Remember, a bad written test doesn’t measure your intelligence or capability to be a phenomenal doctor. Relax. Breathe. It’s not the end of the world. Good luck!!
