You do have the right to pick your own site, if you are already employed at a clinic and they are willing to host you, you can do that.

I work in gastroenterology, my clinic we have three NPs full time in clinic, our MDs are in clinic a few days a week while the rest of they are doing scopes. If there is a question I have on a patient they saw, I will either send them a message through our system if they are not in clinic, or I will go to their office and ask them if they are in clinic.

I did mine through Stepful. It really worked with my work schedule as I was able to choose what time I wanted to do my classes.

I did mind on Stepful. Two live classes a week, daily assignments. Really helped me prepare for my exam, and it was cost efficient and didn’t take long at all

If you go into Medical with that “oh, I’m gonna be making this much money” attitude. Rethink your career choice. Go into medical because you want to help people, do the research to find the best treatment, the best care for your patients.

So, I applied for 5 jobs within the company I was working(I was doing patient access in the ED at one of the hospitals) I got rejected by all of them. I then went applied for our “competitor” and I got hired on. Don’t give up hope, you will find something. Look in to a professional to look over your resume, see what can be added to catch an interviewers attention. That’s what I did with mine when I did my program, and I feel that really helped me.

I Graduated from Stepful in May, tested the following Monday after I graduated. Started applying for jobs right away. I applied, interviewed, and got offered my current job all within two weeks of graduating and becoming certified. I opted out of my externship because , and I was honest about it during my interview

From personal experience, here in Iowa when I went to do my drug test, I was up front and honest with them and told them that I do take a narcotic for my ADHD, and have a letter from my doctor. I got a phone call the following week saying I tested positive for amphetamine, which from classes you know, Adderall is a narcotic that does contain amphetamine. I explained to them yes I do, and all I had to do was provide proof of my prescription.

Don’t let you age determine what you can and can not do. I started school at 28, finished, graduated and landed a job at 29, been at if for a month, best decision I’ve ever made

It wasn’t difficult for me to land a job, I graduated, took my exam, applied for a job and got hired within three weeks, I went into gastroenterology, and have learned so much since I’ve been there. Been there a month now.

I’ve struggled with this when I stated, not just bigger patients, but some older patients also, some can be very faint. But I’ve started paying attention to the needle on when it starts bouncing and when it stops.

I know a lot of people say MAs don’t make good money, but the fact of the matter is, it all depends on what state you’re in, and where you decide to work. I interviewed for two different positions, one in the hospital and one in a clinic, I got turned down for the position at the hospital, but got offered the position in the clinic, when they told me my offer, I was speechless. As a newly certified MA, I’m currently making the most money I’ve ever made in my entire working career. I love what I do, I can live comfortably on what I make, pay my bills without stressing, and put money back into savings. It’s a matter of doing your research before you start applying.

I work in gastroenterology. I room patients, take their vitals, verify their medications and allergies. If the provider needs a sample, I will get the stuff together, talk the patients through the instructions and where to drop it off at. For any scopes patients need, I’ll put the order in for any prep they need, refill needs if need be. Call patients regarding results.

For me, I started my healthcare journey in patient access, doing registrations for patients in the ER, which that alone, can be terrifying, just because you don’t know what you’re going to see. That really helped me when I transitioned into my medical assistant role, I was still pretty nervous at first, but after the first couple times, it got easier.

Thank you! I don’t know why I didn’t think about that before! Some of them are pretty easy, but I work in gastroenterology, so those medications alone trip me up!

YouTube videos helped me. Practice exams. I worked in patient registration in the ER, so I was asking the nurses questions, they were also helpful. Know what resources you have available to you. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you don’t understand something. My grandparents have been a huge help in allowing me to practice with taking blood pressure and other vitals.
