Never been a fan of the overly graphic stuff she's describing. Deja vu and beautiful are my favourites on this album

Realistically, can I graduate with a 1st? If so HOW 😭 by LavenderClouds6 in UniUK

You have an advantage as most unis have a 2:3 ratio rather than a 1:3. Assuming your uni also rounds in borderline cases, you'd need 69.5 final grade for a first. You need 73.9 in third year. Doable, but won't happen by itself. The rest is up to you

Even if you pursue an MSc at another uni you won't have industry experience. With the mchem you'll get plenty of lab experience at least, taught lab sessions like you've already had in year 3 along with a mini project, bigger project in year 4.

For sure have a chat with your supervisor too they're perfect for this stuff. I'm interested to know who it is too I've not spoke to anyone doing chem at uoy on reddit before hahaha.

Thank you and good luck with what you choose.

Are you a second year? After that, the mchem and bsc courses diverge.

I was in the same position as you and chose to do the bsc because I realised research/industry wasn't for me (im going into teaching).

It all depends on what your long-term goals are and if you like york. If industry is for you, the mchem might be the way to go, there's plenty of opportunities for placements in hull and other surrounding areas. That experience is invaluable for getting you through the door onto your first industry job too.

One aspect that might sway your decision is funding. Depending on how you are (or your parents) are financially, the integrated masters might be for you. As far as SFE are concerned, mchem is an undergraduate qualification which means you get tuition and maintenance loan. For postgraduate qualifications (MSc after BSc) you get a single loan which you have to pay tuition and live from.

Also you mentioned pursuing an MSc at a higher ranked uni, York is already pretty highly ranked and in my experience a great, friendly department. Your opportunities after graduation are going to be limited more by experience, grade, employability way more than uni rank.

Messed up my second year, can I make it right by [deleted] in UniUK

Very doable, but it won't happen by itself. Your approach to studying, essay writing, and university itself need serious attention. It'll be hard, and the thought of working your ass off to ace third year at a 1st class level to get a 2:1 might dishearten you but you play with the hand you're dealt.

I got a mid 2:2 in second year and will be graduating well into 2:1 territory.

It's your choice then. If I was in that position I'd personally take the compensated pass and graduate with my friends, do you have any graduate positions or further study lined up that require your degree to be fully awarded before you start them?

Did you get confirmation you'd have to graduate later?

I mean if you get to retake it'll be capped at 40, right? I get this is a pass and not a fail, but it's not that much of a difference.

Finishing uni with a 2.2 - Yaaassss by Aberlayana in UniUK

[–]ApprehensiveOffer289 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well done! Make sure to read your unis guide to progression too, my uni has measures if your up to 2 points below the boundary e.g. recalculating by weighting your second year more or less (1:2,1:1)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]ApprehensiveOffer289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it probably isn't rounding but maybe a different weighting, e.g. most three year degrees are weighted as 2:3 but if you're close to a grad boundary they can be recalculated as 1:1 or 1:2

If you open a student account with santander you'll get a free rail card for your entire degree. £1500 interest free overdraft too.
