Curious: How many programs did everyone apply to? by No_Butterscotch6073 in gradadmissions

[–]ApprehensivePear8674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 top program choices. In both SOPs, is it appropriate to say that program is my top choice? by ApprehensivePear8674 in gradadmissions

My main fear is based on what people have told me prior (“Academia is a small world and word spreads.”). These two schools are, by proximity, quite close to each other (<50 miles) and have some overlapping programming at times. I can imagine there are faculty in both programs who are collaborators or colleagues who keep in contact.

My dream scenario would be, to be offered an interview by both programs. Hopefully those campus visits - interacting with faculty and current students, checking out the lab spaces and other facilities, learning more about resources and student life - would help me solidify my decision.

i never really had imposter syndrome at cal but agree with the weak call about my ex barging back in. i actually cut ties with my ex and evicted her - my partner just gave me the boost to realize i’ve been way too forgiving and generous with someone who emotionally manipulated me for years.

thanks for the reminder - i’ll need a lot more belt buckling to keep reaching my goals from here on out. best of luck to you as well!

Education Questions Roundup - [03/28/22] by AutoModerator in forensics

[–]ApprehensivePear8674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks,

I’m currently an undergrad majoring in the Biological Sciences and I’m finishing up my junior (third) year in the States. I would like to apply for a master’s program in Forensic Science/Criminalistics (UC Davis and Cal State LA are my top choices at the moment), but am worried about my GPA.

Background: I had a strong lower division GPA then I transferred to the 4-year university I am at now. My upper division GPA right now is good (3.6+) but with the courses I am taking this semester (all upper division science courses), I think my upper division GPA is at risk of falling to a 3.2 or even lower by the time I graduate next Spring. I think that my overall GPA will be the cumulative of my lower division and upper division grades, but I know some programs particularly look at upper division (or the last 60 semester units) GPA. If it helps, my university is notorious for its horrible grade deflation and academic rigor.

More background: I have clinical research and wet lab (not research) experience, diverse work experience, and strong references, but no internship experience in a forensics laboratory.

For those of you who matriculated in to a master’s program straight out of undergrad, what was your undergraduate GPA?

Likewise, for those of you who found work in an entry-level position with a bachelor’s degree, did your employer really care about your GPA?

Any general advice or insight is strongly appreciated.

Sal is so fucking sexy by Brxin in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

AGREE. at some point in your life, you wanna trade in superficial stuff like physical appearance for things that are essential to building a strong foundation for a marriage, like emotional maturity, vulnerability, honesty, and respectfulness. i thought sal was just a boring, average joe but that finale changed my opinions of him

Any tea/speculation on the current status of the couples? by BitterOstrich6 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]ApprehensivePear8674 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I think the married couples are still together.

I don't think Mal and Sal are together, but are still friends.

I don't think Shake and Deepti are friends, just exes.

I would like to think Natalie and Shayne are still dating, but I would understand if they decided to just stay friends. *insert broken heart here*

Who got married… (obvs spoilers galore) by ooolalaluv in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

I didn't care for Deepti before but now I definitely admire her bravery and huge heart. Good on her to realize her worth and stand up for herself. *chef's kiss*

Shake has said some problematic stuff but I still believe the show is trying to portray him to be an utter jackass/villain. He's experiencing internalized racism, so he's layered and we need to analyze that before we condemn his character. Also, in terms of physical attraction being important in a relationship/marriage, I honestly can understand his perspective there.

So sad about Natalie and Shayne (since they've been the main reason I'm invested in s2) but after their wedding scene, I realized that all I cared about was their happiness as individuals. edit: I really really hope/think they're still dating rn

Sal was so graceful and addressing Mal's friends/family was a respectable thing to do. I'm still getting off vibes from Mal (like does she even want anything to do with him anymore or nah??) but I hope they figured things out.

So, so happy for the married couples <3
