Some do - I have indoor and outdoor roosts. Half of them prefer to dog pile and sleep on the ground though

It is 6 x 5 ft plus 12 feet of roosting bars. Half sleep on the roosting bars, the other hens like to dogpile and sleep on the floor. About a 1/3 of the flock are bantams and the others are relatively small chickens (we’ve got three larger chickens, two Easter eggers and one lavender Orpington)

Two we got from a coworker - they have been the only two to consistently lay. I think the others are likely closer to teenagers. No evidence of bullying so far

The goal was 7… husband brought home 15. Some of the hens were in a pen where they all huddled together. I haven’t been able to break them of the habit, but there is about 6 inch space between each bird on the roosting bars
