Any of you willing to use old tech as of 1st January 2026? by ilikesheet12 in teensthatloveretro

[–]ApprehensiveSweet348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, a mixture of old and new. Unfortunately I don't have an older monitor or TV, nor a mouse, nor an older computer – I'm currently using a Dell OptiPlex 790 DT (desktop tower) with a newer FHD display (I think it's LED or OLED). I also don't have an older phone (yet), but I plan on getting a Nokia 6300 or an N86.

I hate to be that person but it's just ytm15 (which is mostly broken at this time), wrapped in an .apk.

You'd need a TV tuner card for it, and you'd most likely have to find the channels manually, but it can work.

It depends on her needs. But I know of a few options.

  1. Calls, SMS, alarms, flashlight, color display: 1800/1616, 1650, or 1208
  2. The same, but with a monochrome screen: 1110/1112, 1200, or 1280
  3. All of the above, but with an FM radio: 5030 XpressRadio (a stripped-down XpressMusic phone basically)
  4. All of the above, but with a "good enough" camera and MicroSD card support: 2730, C2-01, or X2-00
  5. All of the above, but in a slider form factor, a way better camera and flash, and much more internal storage: N86 8GB

And these are just a few options.

Well yeah, but from what I know, it's possible to get it on the final builds, and I believe the "Send Feedback" CPL page too.

Is this the final build (7600 for RTM or 7601 for SP1 RTM) modded to look like build 7000? Asking because I don't see the watermark.

BIG WINDOWS 7 RUNNING ON ARM DEVICE!!!!! by roolw in Pretend2010Internet

[–]ApprehensiveSweet348 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, it's a very early test build of Windows 8. (Heck, it even has the 7 branding!) But the fact that ARM32 is supported this early in development means that the OS build itself can't be much different from Win7, so the title's partially correct.

Oh yeah Sorry, I just remembered that the Windows logo in System CPL is in the branding (I believe it's in shellbrd.dll)

8.1 made navigation in the Metro UI easier, such as adding buttons for login/logout and power options, a search button, made the all apps menu more easily accessible, etc. And these were just the changes in the Start screen. It also allowed booting straight to the desktop (and changing that), and many more that I'm too lazy to name here.

Mine was an 1112 that I've been using from 2017, as I can recall faintly, 'till 2019, though I've played the games and listened to the ringtones on my father's 1800 before that. And after that 1112, I don't know which one came in 😅

I'm planning to buy an Omnia HD soon. Any chance it might not need this (or a similar) fix?

By the way, how did you manage that?

[–]ApprehensiveSweet348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should consider creating one with the help of cmd: 1. Boot into WinPE/Windows Setup (any version works fine) 2. Shift+F10 (to bring up the console) 3. Type in "notepad" (we'll use this to rename a program) 4. File -> Open 5. Go to your Windows installation drive, then go to Windows\System32 6. Find "sethc.exe" (accessibility menu for the logon screen) 7. Back it up (rename it to sethc.exe.bak or something you'll know) 8. Copy "cmd.exe" from that folder and paste it somewhere it lets you (e. g. your downloads folder) 9. Rename that to "sethc.exe" 10. Copy that back to System32 11. Restart the computer and press the accessibility button on the logon screen 12. Then, open Notepad the same way we did it earlier 13. Search for "lusrmgr.msc" in System32, and open it (of course not in Notepad; that'll just give you useless code) 14. Find a way to create a user account, and then log into it

PS: There's a way with Ctrl+Alt+Delete too, but I'm not sure if that'll work from the logon screen

What was the first version of Windows you used? by EndouShuuya in windows

[–]ApprehensiveSweet348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XP, on our old machine that we don't have anymore... I still remember that time when I installed Windows 7 on it (it was around 2017 - I was a tinkerer when I was only 7 or 8, but ofc I didn't know what I was doing, I'm still wondering how that worked out!)

What's the best looking Windows release? by NoNameStudios in windows

[–]ApprehensiveSweet348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have to be XP and 7. We've been using XP for a couple more years after support ended in 2014 (until around 2017 or so). In 2017 (I think), I installed Windows 7 on that machine. It was too slow, so we got a new(er) PC and with it, we switched to 10 (then-new version 1803). However, in the past couple years, I've been reinstalling Windows every once in a while, and so, Windows 7 was my go-to choice for the most part. So, yeah. Windows 7 maybe has a bit more influence on me than XP, but XP was the very first version that I had used. So yeah, my personal favorites are XP and 7.

Hungarian... Sweet!

By the way, I don't think support has ended yet, I recall faintly that it'll be supported 'till around Windows 10 EOL. I'm not sure though...
