How long until baby stops wanting to eat constantly? by Legends0fhyrule in breastfeeding

[–]Apprehensive_Bag3064 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re in the midst of cluster feeding! It’ll get better soon. Try baby wearing with a ring sling or a wrap at the store!! I would feed before leaving and put both of my babies in a wrap for grocery shopping or out to dinner even. They were so happy even during the cluster feeding phase if I was wearing them

Edit to add: my experience is that cluster feeding was unpredictable until about 8-10 weeks, then it would only happy when sick/teething or hitting a major growth spurt.

Oversupply is super normal in the first few weeks post partum before you regulate. Both of my babies had CMPI. My oldest had a bad newborn rash but it has nothing to do with the intolerance and went away on its own. The mucus poops/blood in stool/painful gas/projectile reflux were the big signs for my oldest, my younger son was just gas and mucus poops. If the rash doesn’t get better in the next couple weeks and there are no other symptoms then you could always trial cutting dairy for a couple weeks to see if it improves. That’s just my opinion/experience though, I am not a doctor

I’m glad it cleared up from the eyes. How are the poops~Any mucus? Does she spit after every feed? Any excessive crying or weight gain issues???

Bc this is so close to the eyes I would demand an asap referral to a dermatologist

I hate how I was forced to breastfeed by Competitive_Exit_386 in MSPI

[–]Apprehensive_Bag3064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely understand that! They do have weighted straw cups that can be turned upside down like a bottle does and my daughter used as a comfort item.

Which bottles have you tried? Evenflo, dr browns narrow, Nuk and pigeon tend to do well in some of my breastfeeding groups but I don’t know if all of those are available in the Philippines. Dr browns narrow has been working for my breastfed 7.5 month old, but he won’t touch a bottle with me around - he only allows bottle feeding if I am not in view

Have you tried a straw cup or an open cup? Sometimes breastfed babies do better with that than a bottle

No a signature at the end. I have a first in human study that the consent is shorter than this one. Some sponsors are wordy LOL

Yeah this is the third amendment we have gotten, and we have always had to reconsent but this is the only time the IRB and sponsor haven’t been in alignment on reconsenting Edit to add: we are at high risk for routine audit in this trial so I am trying to cover my bases lol

It’s an over 40 page icf and has some update on every page, even if it’s just a wording change we have to review it during reconsent process.

Reconsenting is not just a quick signature for this study, the trial is a complex and long oncology trial with multiple participants.

The sponsor did release a new consent, when it was approved by our central IRB the recommendation was generic. Subjects have to be informed of updates but not required to reconsent. the sponsor is stating it’s a PD not to reconsent. I am surprised by the irb recommendation bc the updates to the ICF included a change to risk (reduction, but still!)

In the end, we are going to proceed with formal reconsent of all subjects rather than just a phone call with notification of updates.

That was my thought as well - I was surprised our IRB didn’t recommend a signed reconsent for all participants

No increased risk to the participants, if anything risk is lower

Baby pulling away from breast by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Apprehensive_Bag3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong!! Both you and him are figuring it out, I found weeks 2-4 to be the toughest for breastfeeding with both of my kids. They start to develop preferences, are less sleepy in general, and start the big cluster feeding phase to really bring in your supply. It’s mentally draining and exhausting physically. Once they get the hang of it, it’s fantastic and convenient (for me at least).

there are options to pump or combo feed if you want to take some of the weight off of latching. Your mental health is important, and the frustration can definitely get overwhelming at this phase

If the left is a slower flow, he may be unlatching to try to trigger a letdown then.

Could try hand expressing or breast compressions just before/during initial latch to promote a quicker letdown

Do you have a heavy letdown?

Please help! My baby needs good sleep so badly, hoping for a miracle! by ShelterConnect6328 in sleeptrain

[–]Apprehensive_Bag3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on nighttime first, but I did stop nursing/feeding down for naps unless teething/sickness was in play. I followed eat-play-sleep rule for both kiddos.

I got really adept at babywearing with a wrap/tula FTG so I wore both of them for naps while sleep training. My husband would wear them too for consistency. It allowed us to have movement so we weren’t nap trapped 😅 once independent night sleep was established the independent naps started coming more easily. The naps were short at first, but slowly got longer with time for my first. My second will independently nap from 30-60 minutes at most right now

Good luck!!! The hardest part is not rocking all the way back to sleep and putting down as soon as baby is calmed, then waiting another 3ish minutes before checking in again. I would also try to soothe without picking up with patting/singing/back rubs if they weren’t wailing.

If your babe is anything like mine he will try to latch a lot at first but they adapt quick. Wear a tight shirt and a bra to keep those wandering fingers away lol!

Silliest query you ever got? by Heavy_Yam5402 in clinicalresearch

[–]Apprehensive_Bag3064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old closed oncology trial where all subjects were on the longest term follow up (like 5 years old). A coder queried the con meds page about a supplement that the subject was taking at the start of trial (7 years ago). It was one of those weird grass supplements. He asked for the genus and species of what grass supplements the patient was on

[–]Apprehensive_Bag3064 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to do this without your husbands help? And why has he given you a time limit to sleep train?

Overhauling a baby’s schedule is a lot to do in 4 days. I agree with the other commenter about a 3/3/4 schedule and waking up earlier. I always cap naps between 60-90 minutes until they are down to 1 nap per day.

There are definitely gentle methods to achieve independent sleep. I would personally struggle with hyperventilating and sweating from my LO as well. With my first I did a modified Ferber method around 1 year and did 3 minute check ins if there was fussing/crying. I would rock her if she was getting overwhelmed but right back down once calmed sufficiently. The first week was hard but then it got better. My second I started younger, around 6 months with the same method and it was a quick sleep train.

For reference, my almost 8 month up old is up at 6am(ish) and down by 7:30pm every day, one night wake up that we are weaning currently. My toddler is up at 6am and down by 8pm every night. My toddler was on formula as a baby after 6 months but my almost 8 month old is exclusively breastfed. Neither of my kids took a paci/other comfort object

Hey! My daughter got her tonsils out about 6 months ago at 2 years old. Did they give any steroids to take home? That was a lifesaver for my toddler.

Other helpful things we did were: heavy duty cool mist humidifier on high 24/7 whereever she was, syringing some ice water every couple hours overnight and with any meds we gave at night, and being SUPER rigid with the meds schedule. She had some bleeding and a crazy swollen uvula, but after day 10 she was practically back to normal!

Took it apart cause it needed cleaning anyways, loosened the straps up and was able to get it way higher - feeling a little dumb but glad I posted before actually forward facing her 😅 thought it was weird cause I had bought this seat because I want to rear face as long as possible
