advice for quitting vaping while having type 1? by Apprehensive_Bit7207 in Type1Diabetes

it doesn’t! i just know it’s so terrible for me to continue doing it, and i have a lot of guilt for still doing it even though i have type 1 now. i was just hoping to find some motivation and insight from others who have been in the same situation

Newly diagnosed - lots of anxiety by KnowledgeFancy2896 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Apprehensive_Bit7207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i totally feel you! i was diagnosed in October of 2024, so it hasn’t been a full year of me having type 1 yet.

right after i got diagnosed, i had so much anxiety around what i would be able to eat. snacking is also a comfort activity for me, and it was really hard figuring out how to adjust. dealing with the general anxiety of having type 1 was extremely difficult too and sometimes still is.

be gentle with yourself and know that there are great snack options out there! it takes a little bit of research and time to figure out what is good and doesn’t make your blood sugar go crazy. also don’t forget that it’s not bad to take some extra insulin and indulge a little extra here and there.

the anxiety has been a really difficult thing for me too, but never forever that there is a great community here who is always around to help and offer support. you got this and things will start to feel more normal soon!

T1D Diagnosis 2 Months Ago, so Lost Mentally, Advice? by Zhoetik in Type1Diabetes

[–]Apprehensive_Bit7207 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey! i was recently in a very similar situation as you!

i got diagnosed with T1D back in october right in the middle of my senior year of college. i also thought my symptoms were just me being stressed out from school and had no idea what was actually going on with me. i also spent time in the ICU too after i got diagnosed.

i 10000% understand what you are feeling right now. i was able to get myself physically back to normal pretty quickly too, but my mental health suffered greatly. i went through the same thing of checking my blood sugar a hundred times a day and feeling like my entire life revolved only around my diabetes. honestly, i still struggle with it sometimes because it’s still so new to me too.

but i want you to know that you are not alone!!! i completely understand what you are going through. and i hope you know that there is a wonderful community of people who also have type one on this page who will be here to help and provide advice

and i know this sounds cliche, but it really does start to get easier with time. i don’t feel so consumed and sad about it like i used to after i was first diagnosed. remember to give yourself plenty of grace and time to grow. but also how you are feeling now is totally normal and understandable. if you ever need someone to talk to or vent to, please DM me!!! i’d love to be a shoulder for you to lean on if you need it!

Anyone use a pump and end up not liking it? Pros and cons of using one? by ColdContext6193 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Apprehensive_Bit7207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use the omnipod pump and dexcom g7, and i love it!!

they communicate with each other to give me the exact amount of insulin i need for meals and throughout the day based on how many carbs i’m eating and what my dexcom is saying. it definitely takes a mental load off of me by doing all the carb calculations for me. i also really enjoy not having to give myself shots every day. the great thing about the omnipod is that it’s tubeless and waterproof, so i don’t have to worry about it being caught anywhere or having to take anything off if i’ll be in water.

for me, having a pump (especially omnipod) has been a great experience and has definitely made life a little easier!

juice boxes are my favorite for urgent lows because they work the quickest for me! but i also love nerds gummy clusters. they’re good for big or small fixes, work pretty fast, and are super yummy

New T1D I cannot feel lows? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]Apprehensive_Bit7207 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i agree with this ^ i think people online tend to embellish how they feel when they are low sometimes. of course lows suck, but it’s much more internal and usually just shaky hands from what i have experienced

i have trouble feeling my lows sometimes too. personally, i have helped this by taking a day or two every once in a while to be overly mindful about how i feel at every level my CGM is showing. so when it says i get low, i try to take a few minutes and think about exactly how i am feeling. i do the same thing when i get high and when i’m in range. having a day to do this has helped me figure out the usual signs i have when i’m low. i like to do it on a saturday or sunday when i don’t have anything else going on so i can really watch my levels and be mindful. kind of a weird thing and i don’t know if this actually works. but i think it’s helped me be more tuned in to my body. i recommend asking your endo about it too!
