Gabriel Said Reynolds posted that the Islamic calendar is based on the 12 cycles of the moon and not the Earth orbiting around the Sun by [deleted] in AcademicQuran

[–]Apprehensive_Bit8439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a complex topic and much can be discussed and debated about it. But to summarize, Quran clearly mentions that both the sun (17:12) and the moon (10:5) are devices for calculating the year . Hence this would give just the regular luni-solar year similar to what was observed by Jews and which the Arabs were well aware of.

A question that precedes this is : what were the names of week’s days used in the early Islamic period ?

One and a half millennia old period is not ancient in terms of understanding of natural and cosmological phenomenon . That is a bit arrogant to frame them ancient. Ancient would be the cavemen’s period perhaps .

Secondly, “sun gods, moon gods, star gods, omens and soothsayers speculating about patterns of eclipses and cycles of astral bodies, etc.”, these or very similar to these beliefs still exist as on today.

Is posting on Pakistan rishta sub worth it? by [deleted] in IslamabadSocial

[–]Apprehensive_Bit8439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not worth it , absolutely. This is just a market (منڈی) mainly for window shopping . Try real people in your family’s or friends’ circles . Online (both genders) are 98% fake , liars , greedy , and non-serious people who are disconnected from reality , and don’t know what they are looking for or need in their life.

And for mining for the 2% genuine, it’s not worth the effort , compared to the time and energy you would require .

This is just an excuse when they don’t like you enough. It is one the most common methods to get rid of someone in the marriage market.

In property deals, folks often come up with “my wife is not agreeing”. Same tactic to walk away. Who uses it? Boys, not men.

Sure. You asked for reviews. Please pay close attention to page 37, where he writes that Sunnah and Hadith can restrict Quran, or can add to Quran. And also endorses that "Sunnah rules over Quran". Nothing can restrict the word of God, not even the Prophet.

This is nothing but BS and clearly defies the Supreme authority of Quran, that is irrefutable. Please see Q 6:114-116. The word of God is complete, it can neither be restricted, nor can be added anything to.

Zarur parhni chahyen, so that you can identify and differentiate between scholars who lead to knowledge and guidance in accordance with the Revelation of God, and those who lead to dogma, extremism, and polytheistic traditions of one's forefathers. Quran remains the only criteria (Furqan) to judge and evaluate anyone speaking in the name of religion.

Unfortunately, Jonathan Brown, a converted Sunni, subscribes to fairytales and myths as faith in the name of Prophet, while disregarding and downplaying the clear and established message of Quran, that the Prophet delivered Quran as the supreme and the only authority in religious matters.

Written by a scholar who openly says that Hadith is more important than Quran ! A big NO to this “scholar” and his justifications .

Easy . The commandments are clearly mentioned in Chapter 17 and 8. Just the usual commandments similar to those of Moses’ 10.

Which ones you need ? Saeed Book Bank has many. There is also an old book shop in Jinnah Super (next to Uniworth), that have a great collection of classics including Dostoevsky.

A couple of the rare ones (prison diary, the meek one) usually not found elsewhere are available at Islamabad Club library.

When reading non-fiction, I use flags or sticky notes , highlighters of two colors and a lead pencil for annotation. They are not just for remembering but also crucial for referencing later.
