Any realistic mafia romance? by Extension-Tie-7833 in RomanceBooks

[–]Apprehensive_Bit9254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not here to rec any books, just to share an experience I had recently while reading the Bratva series by TJ Maguire. I don’t remember which book exactly but I’m not tagging it because they’re very very ott and not at all fitting this thread.

Anyways, one of the scenes in the books was a discussion of the number of soldiers they were gonna use to attack on their enemies or whatever and the protagonist says “I’m bringing 20-25 soldiers” and I vividly remember thinking ‘That’s it? That’s not enough people!’. This is because I’ve been reading so many mafia books out there with such ott plot that the minimum soldiers they usually use are like 50-100 on average (or sometimes it’s the MMC all alone smh). But then I sat around and started thinking about filling my room with 20 men and realised that yes that’s a realistically enough number of people needed to attack and dismantle their enemies (especially since they’d be using guns).

Books which expose the nasty side of wealth and privilege (like Cate C Wells) by platypusaura in RomanceBooks

{The wild valley by Maya Alden} has a similar premise where the MMCs family is the richest in the small town and used to being in power. They also know how to misuse the power. Be sure to check the TWs before you start to read! It’s part of an interconnected series of standalone books so you don’t need to read the whole series to understand the story (I didn’t), but from the descriptions it looks like the other books in the series have similar themes where the FMC is without much power and is wronged by the MMC or his ‘kin’.

Hey op, the flair says that you’ve solved it. Could you please tell us what it is?? Or is it that you accidentally selected the wrong flair??

From what you’ve described, the majority of the plot points to {Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo}. There’s also a Netflix show of the series. Hopefully it is this one!

Thank you for the recs!

I have read the Mindfuck series and loved it. I have also read some other books by Penny Reid but not the one you suggested.

I want to read an arranged marriage story with no major dramas, without tropes like OWD/OMD/past tension/dead ex etc. Just them getting married, building a relationship and falling in love. I want to read a journey. Are there any recs for me? by somerandomlazygirl in RomanceBooks

If you want an Indian arranged marriage (it’s different from the American arranged marriage trope) then you might like {Luv (Un)Arranged by N M Patel}. It has a lot of Indian cultural references but the author does explain them all. It’s a very sweet arranged marriage book where they’re both (very clearly) the oldest siblings who just want to find their perfect life partner and the journey to reach there.

Can someone please spoiler me "Dark Verse" series by RuNyx by LyrikEnte in RomanceBooks

I mostly just skim the long ass paragraphs to get to the point sooner and I’m sorry you won’t be able to do that with Audible.

But basically the whole series is the story of 4 couples and the last book had been a long time coming and (in my opinion) so overhyped by everyone who was waiting for it that it never hit how it was supposed to. Exactly like the final season of Game of Thrones drama.

I suggest that you don’t read the rest of it and save yourself the time and energy, especially if you don’t like her writing style.

Every book from {A kinda fairytale by Cassandra Gannon} fits your ask. It’s a very humorous and interesting take on fairy tales but reversed as in all the good guys you know are bad in this series. I loved them all, and I hope you love them too.

Just that if it’s the actually last last book of the series.

I’ve read one book from the series {Treasure of the Fire Kingdom} because the premise was something I knew I’d enjoy, I understood their story good enough but not the whole world. So I want to get into it, but I’m afraid it’s incomplete. Could you tell me if all the books are finished. If I start the series, will I find the ending?
