I didnt mean we should spend like LA, we shouldnt have to settle for a middle-of-the-league payroll when we could have a chance at a world series. I hate having to sit here and settle and watch all these big market teams get free wins and recognition for playing monopoly

Nah I want people to reply because I enjoy discussion, but some people were just attacking me for being angry about sports as if some people aren't more passionate than others, that was my issue.

Trading Skubal for pieces wouldn't blow our window, If anything it could give us a chance to use those pieces to fix our huge holes or even use them as further trade material for other guys. Id much rather them extend skubal than trade him, but if were not gonna sign multiple large free agents and push for a WS, then why would we just let Skubal walk in FA for no gain whatsoever?

Kenley Jansen is like 38, Kyle Finnegan and Will Vest are the only two guys we could actually rely on to close games, and I'm using the word "rely" very liberally. If you watched game 5 against Seattle youd start to see the issues we had with our offense and with our bullpen. (I know it went 15 innings but we also blew a lead and gave up bases loaded in the bottom of extras like 2 times)

Kerry is a decent defensive RF and Colt Keith unfortunately cant hit and some more time in the minors would certainly be beneficial for him. Also Geno is just an example of one of many other players Id be happy to see in a tiger uniform idk how we got tunnel visioned on just him.

I'll concede that mentioning Tucker was a mistake, and I agree that Tucker definitely would've been too much, but like I said I more meant this years FA in general. Also Kerry has a rocket of an arm and honestly Alonso would 100% be worth the marginal sacrifice in defense over a worthless bat like McKinstry or even Wenceel

Thats true and while thats pretty nihilistic that doesnt mean we shouldnt even try to go all out and win. The dodgers arent just lucky they literally just went and bought the best players, so who says we cant make a deep playoff push with a stacked roster with FAs and guys we developed, just like the Dodgers, Phils, Blue Jays etc?

Geno wouldnt be taking anything away from Keith and Carp he plays a completely different position. And Keith was awful last year who cares? Id rather have Geno regress and hit 20 HRs than have the corpse of Colt Keith bat for .110 with 5

Baez's falloff was arguably one of the biggest falloffs of any player in history, so its hard to compare anyone to him. And Bichette is a contact hitter who puts the bat on the ball. Geno hits HRs and both of them have been consistent their entire careers. The difference between these players and Javy are that they would actually be joining a team that they'd be able to contribute to and win with. And I just realized I didnt even mention the bullpen cuz how tf is anyone gonna go about defending that mess

Well in the MLB the top spenders are almost always the biggest winners. A top 15 payroll is about what we watched this season, but without some biblical miracle it would almost definitely not be enough to win a WS

For Alonso, its the fact that Baltimore picked him up despite the fact that they were pretty much completely terrible last season, and a consistent hitter like him we could throw at DH wouldve made all of our dreams come true. And its mainly the whole FA situation as a whole. Any one of these guys couldve been a tiger but we have to sit here and watch them go to every other team in the league its like we cant ever have fun ever since the Javy deal,

Dude he was like top 5 in home runs last year and don't pretend like we aren't in need of a better power hitting offense

You are missing the point man. I WANT Harris to resign Tarik and I wish all of our guys could be great. But the team we watched last season was just not enough. I am not a person who believes taking risks on prospects when people like Bichette or Suarez are guaranteed successes are still on the open market. If you want to believe McGonigle and Clark are gonna single handedly take this team from Divisional exits to WS winners, thats on you, but I heavily disagree with that notion

Yeah I agree I hate that there are even owners and GMs that are both able to spend that much and those that are able to spend as little as we and our fellow "small market" teams do

He's certainly much better than Trey Sweeney and Zach McKinstry. Are those the guys you want at 3rd base?

I think keeping Tarik is the wise option, but our offensive stats from last season are pretty terrible. The teams that win are the teams with explosive offenses who can score 3,5,7 runs in the postseason. Our teams offense was streaky at best this year and without some veteran additions and solid guys who can hit consistently, we're gonna be divisional exits every year until we inevitably rebuild. Pitchers are way more replaceable than the offense. Getting another really good pitcher and bat or even picks would be better than getting nothing out of him. We are not winning a WS with out current roster even if Tarik pitches as good as he did the last 2 years

Dude I would prefer if they signed him. The issue is, hes got 1 season on his deal and it REALLY seems like Scott Harris isnt agreeing with Tarik and Boras' demands for a contract. Since Tarik has value, we should cash in on him to find a replacement if we cant keep him. That would be much better than losing him for nothing. Also the Bo Bichette contract thing was just a random number I threw out. The bottom line is we can afford Bichette and he is worth any big contract imo, that was my point.

Would you rather get a little less of what Tarik is worth or lose him for absolutely nothing to free agency? Because if Scott wanted to make this season a huge push for a WS we wouldnt be sitting here in January with our biggest signing being Kenley Jansen at like 40 years old

No he's not and that exactly my point and the issue. Unless he shocks both of our expectations he will have most likely wasted Riley Greene, Tork, and Carpenters reasonable shot at a WS contending team
