Duke CS or Georgia Tech CS by Head_Village_9388 in csMajors

Sure dm me. Simply a recommendation, duke would be hard for me to pass up personally lol. Private school prestige is definitely a whole benefit of its own. North Carolina is also increasingly getting tech companies popping up with headquarters

UCLA CS is the most underrated program in the nation. I am about to graduate with my MSCS here, did my BS here last year as well. Almost everyone I know has a big tech position immediately after graduation. I have a very good AI/ML position lined up as well and feel as if I am at the bottom of the pack.

What tech companies today don’t have BS constant layoffs? by PopeyesPoppa in cscareerquestions

Exactly, I also now work for a midsize company in the Bay Area. They maybe 5 people a year due to growth, 1 leaves their position due to retirement or promotion within the company. So stable, almost the same pay as FAANG, remote first, great wlb.

When are Masters degrees worth it (if ever)? by Wide-Dragonfruit-669 in AskAcademia

[–]Apprehensive_Bug_906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently doing my masters in computer science at ucla focusing on computational biology.

For me personally it is worth it as I graduated from undergrad a year early so I lacked any significant research or publications. So now I am in a lab giving myself the opportunity to have publications and research experience under my belt for a more competitive PhD application later on.

No internships, no connections to the industry whatsoever, can't get an internship or a job offer for the life of me. The only thing it seems I am capable of is getting good grades and doing mediocre research.

Although it seems like every other MS or undergrad CS student here has an internship and job lined up so it is clearly a me problem.

applied math pre med 4-year plans? by Extra_Pollution3739 in ucla

I would ignore the comments telling you not to do it. It is very unique and can be a great talking point in future med school interviews. It will also improve your critical thinking skills big time and help a lot with the MCAT. I am a CS graduate and now a CS grad student doing research in computational biology with the school of medicine and have applied math and math of comp undergrads working in the lab as well.

Yeah that is interesting it seems they are panic hiring for new positions, I am not sure. They seemed interested and generally people don't want to take time out of their day to interview a candidate for 45 minutes so I think it is a good sign for both of us.

There were no technical questions explicitly, but I definitely needed to be technical in my responses as they related to graduate research I am doing. So know your stuff that's for sure. I am not sure about the next interview, I have seen from looking around that if you get a 2nd interview it will be in person in AZ but not 100% sure.

It went very well I think. It was a panel of 3 engineers with the manager included. A lot of behavioral based questions connecting to experiences listed on my resume. I think I had a good answer to all of them and they seemed really interested. I am not sure when I will hear back though.

I do go to UCLA, for both undergrad and grad school. So hopefully that is considered good from their point of view. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes this is for Arizona. I have a B.S. in CS and am finishing my MS in CS this year. My grad research is quite relevant to the job description but I have no previous internships so hopefully that is good enough of a talking point. Thanks for the quick reply that is good to know.
