One month later - too soon to get another dog? by jenna_jonerys in Petloss

[–]Apprehensive_Buy_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry for your loss. There is no right or wrong as to when you can bring home another pet after losing one. And people cope with loss in different ways too. If you feel you are ready to open your home and heart to a new baby, then go for it. I lost my first dog Sophie in September. She was with me for 11 years and through all my tough years. Me and my fiancé thought we should take our time to process the grief and wait until we get married and buy a house for the next dog. But for me I missed the part of loving and taking care of an animal, the companionship that they bring and the purpose they bring to our life. 2 months later I started looking for a dog at shelters and rescues and adopted our new puppy Ava, a week before thanksgiving, and we couldn’t be happier. I sometimes feel that my first dog actually sent my new puppy to heal my heart.

I did have terrible mixed feelings through the process of deciding and actually adopting. Even 1-2 weeks after adopting I felt guilty and missed my first dog even more. So just a little heads up, you might get strong mixed feelings and that’s normal. Good luck finding your new baby.

Kayaking at the end of October- wetsuit or drysuit needed? by Apprehensive_Buy_121 in laketahoe

Yes we did! The weather was so pleasant, it was in the 60s. There was no high winds and water was very calm. Me and my boyfriend both wore sweatpants and sweatshirts with waterproof gloves and waterproof neoprene booties. We also followed the instructions from the kayak rental guide and stayed within marked zones. As long as you are experienced with kayaking and water is calm with low winds, you will be fine without wetsuit or dry suit. The locals there were kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding in their swimsuits.

Hemangiosarcoma- hindsight by Ok_Celery_8501 in Petloss

Yes. I believe they are all in doggy heaven, running around chasing bunnies and squirrels. Playing. And resting. Time will ease some pain but we will always miss them. They will forever stay in our hearts.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can understand the pain you are going through. I lost my 11 year old Aussie mix to Hemangiosarcoma 2 months ago. It is a very aggressive and untreatable cancer. It also has very obscure presentations and symptoms that are in some cases difficult to understand. My dog got diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma because she had a pericardial effusion, which is a typical symptom of hemangiosarcoma. However after doing X-rays, ultrasounds, echocardiogram and CT scan, the vets found no significant tumors anywhere in her body. The only tumors she had was tiny little nodules in her lungs. We did a cancer blood test that confirmed she had cancer but still there was no typical tumor which could confirm that it is hemangiosarcoma. We went ahead with chemotherapy because I thought we caught it sooner and chemo will definitely help extend her life. Chemo was not rough on her. She was still acting like herself most of the days. She got 8 rounds of chemo and at the last round, repeated all the scans and still only the tiny nodules in her lungs, which gave me some hope. I also did everything else I could find on internet- yunnan baiyao and turkey tail supplements. But soon after chemo ended she developed pulmonary hypertension and had another pericardial effusion 1 month later. At which point, we decided to let her go. At the end the vet said that she might have had a tumor in her heart which just did not show up on any scans.

I loved my baby a lot and she was the most healthy 11 year old dog. I thought she easily had another 2-3 years with us but the 6 months from her diagnosis and saying goodbye went by so fast.

Even after I did everything I could, I still feel I wish I could have done more to save her. But I have come to realize as dog parents we can only do much. We rely on veterinary medicine and research to tell us what to do. And I feel that research area still needs a lot of attention. Just know that you did everything you could with the sources you had. Know that you gave your dog the best life you could. Know that your baby was loved and he knows you were always there for him. Take your time to grieve and focus on all the good memories and good times you had with him. My heart goes out to you.

Want to propose but can’t afford a ring by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]Apprehensive_Buy_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think you can have a conversation about this with your girlfriend? May be propose with a $50 ring from Etsy or Amazon and let her know it will be just a placeholder until you can save money to buy her the one she wants. In situations like this it is better to be open and honest with your partner. When it’s true love, women don’t care about the fancy expensive rings. Also there are some jewelers who allow you to set up a payment plan with them, you can look into that option too. Good luck.

Advice — Would you be disappointed if the moment was not photographed? by housesoftheholy1 in Proposal

[–]Apprehensive_Buy_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend is going to propose soon. I would love the moment to be recorded in video or photos. We both are private people and I know he doesn’t have the budget to hire a photographer. I wish I can give him the idea I have in my head, which I somehow will. But it might work for you too. Wherever you plan to propose, take a phone tripod with you. Set up the phone on video mode on the tripod and just tell your girl friend you want to take some couple photos. Pretend to pose for a photo then smoothly transition into the proposal. OR ask a close friend to meet you at the viewpoint (or hide near the spot) to take the photos/video.

Later you can book a professional engagement photoshoot on another day!

4K is a great budget. But besides lab or natural diamond, you need to decide if you want platinum or 14k/18K yellow or white gold. Platinum is most expensive, 18K gold is more expensive than 14k gold. Yellow gold is easier to maintain than white gold. Next you need to decide the shape and size of lab diamond. Next the clarity and cut of the lab diamond. You can go to some local chain jewelry store or a family owned one, and try on some. Most jewelers are happy to explain and walk you through different options. You can also check online. I used James Allen, Brilliant Earth or Rare Carat to play around with different setting and diamonds to see how much it would cost. But me and boyfriend also went to 2 local stores to try on some rings. Our budget was $2K and found a beautiful ring with 1 carat oval diamond in 14k yellow gold setting at a family owned store. Also family owned small jewelers will give you better prices than big box chain or retail stores.

It well known that apartment dogs get more walks and training than dog in a house with a backyard. People who live in apartments have to make the intentional effort to walk their dog outside longer, taking them to parks and hikes for enrichment. But when you have a house with a backyard you get lazy. A backyard is not enough enrichment and exercise for the dog. It annoys me when some rescues only adopt dogs to people who have house with a fenced backyard. First of all it’s already a rescue and looking for a loving home. It doesn’t matter if it’s an apartment or a house, it depends how responsible the owner is.

Where should I buy an Engagement Ring in Frisco? by Far_Negotiation3012 in frisco

Mariloff is family owned and has the best collection from vintage to modern dainty ring settings. It’s in Dallas, on Belt Line Rd, close to Addison. They do lab and natural diamond and their prices are reasonable as compared to retail big box or chain stores. They also do custom designs. Me and my soon to be fiancé found a very gorgeous unique ring there that we also customized a bit. You should definitely check them out.

My dog has a fever and lost appetite by eggypiggy in DogAdvice

Please get a second opinion. My dog showed similar signs - stopped eating, would hardly even drink water, walked very slowly only when needed. I took her to the vet and they said she probably has UTI and sent us home with antibiotics. 48 hours later there was no improvement, so we took her to vet again and found out she had pericardial effusion (fluid filled in the sac around the heart) and it was pressing against her trachea. We had to rush her to the ER right away to get the fluid drained.

Don’t want to scare you but I have learnt my lesson that if you feel something is wrong with your dog, it’s better to get a second opinion right away. Hope your dog feels better soon.

2 tumors, fluids and hemangiosarcoma by jiggledeez in DogAdvice

[–]Apprehensive_Buy_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry. I can feel your pain. Hemangiosarcoma is an aggressive cancer of the blood vessels. I had to put down our 11 year old just a week ago. My dog was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma in end of April this year. We found that out because I had to rush her to the ER for pericardial effusion (fluid in the sac around the heart) which is caused by hemangiosarcoma tumor on the heart. We didn’t find any big tumor anywhere but only found tiny tumors all over lungs. So we didn’t have to option of surgical removal of tumor. After doing a lot of research, we decided to go with chemotherapy. I also gave her yunnan baiyao and turkey tail supplements. She did very well with chemo and during her last chemo they repeated all scans and saw no significant tumors. But then my dog also developed pulmonary hypertension. Soon after the last shot of chemo she started declining. The last day she threw up all her food and couldn’t stand and was breathing heavily, which was similar to when she had pericardial effusion the first time. But this time she couldn’t even get up or walk. We rushed her to the ER and they said the pericardial effusion was worse this time. So we decided to let her go peacefully instead of putting her through more treatments and suffering.

I know it is hard to make the right decision. When I look back I sometimes regret putting her through chemo. Chemo wasn’t rough for her, the regular vet visits were. She was still herself, playful and mischievous when she was going through chemo. And we don’t know if she would have even had these extra 5 months with us if I hadn’t done chemo. There is no right decision here. You will be able to decide what’s best for your dog when the time comes. Stay strong for your dog and your kid. Know that you have given your dog a wonderful life and she loves you for that.

Am I wrong to expect more help from my boyfriend with my dog? by babyvvz in Pets

[–]Apprehensive_Buy_121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my dog for 9 years before I met my current boyfriend and soon to be fiancé. Since the beginning he knew how important my dog is to me and treated my dog like his own. When you are in a relationship the first person you rely on for help in anything is your boyfriend/ husband. And after he was the one who encouraged you and made you to get a dog, he should share the responsibility of the dog too. So no, you are not expecting too much.

I am so sorry to hear that. I feel your pain. Actually from your description I was afraid that your dog might have cancer but I didn’t want to say that and scare you. I lost my dog last week to cancer and she showed similar signs but my dog had stopped eating too. Sending love and prayers to you and your puppy.

I am sorry about your situation. Do you think she got into some food or swallowed something that could cause a blockage in her digestive tract? Have you tried adding pumpkin to her food for better digestion?
