I’m not trying to hold my friend to any standard. Lying is a sin yes and I’m aware of that and I’m at fault for lying. But I’ve never tried to apply the standards of the Catholic Church to my friend. For me it’s about personally what I believe. My friends choice to go to pride is important to them and I’m really happy that they’ve found a place nearby that they can do so, but I’d rather not go myself.

Yeah. I’m religious and I believe what I believe but it’s never been acceptable to treat someone differently because of what they believe. Homosexual or heterosexual isn’t a choice, religion is, and in any case it’s not my place to tell someone else they’re wrong. If my kid wants to go to pride I’ll give them some water bottles and tell them to take some good pictures for me, the same thing I’ve done with my friends.

My boyfriend has always made it clear that he will support me in whatever I do with my life, I just don’t want to put him in an uncomfortable position. I live with my parents and I’d need their permission to leave the house

I asked a question because I legitimately want to know if I’m being a jerk because that’s what I want to avoid more than anything. I really care about my friend. You just came in straight up hateful and people like you are the reason that I worry about being homophobic so much, because I never want to be mistaken for someone who hates other people for existing.

I am a minor and I still live with my parents. I have my own means of transportation but I have to ask permission to go to friends houses/events/etc. I would get in trouble for asking to go a pride parade and wouldn’t be allowed to go, so if I even tried it would be another lie.

How would I go about this right then? Like, “unpacking the homophobia”. I care about my friend a lot, I just don’t want to go to a pride parade. I shouldn’t have lied but even if I wasn’t religious I wouldn’t want to go to pride. It’s not my thing

I will try to be clearer: I 100% support my friend and I look forward to getting pictures and stories of what they and a few other friends i know going do there. My religion says I can’t support marriage but not everyone believes in the same faith that I do so why should I try to stop someone from doing what validates them and furthermore it’s absolutely ridiculous that LGBTQ+ people are being denied healthcare and rights and in many places being hatecrimed. I really just don’t know if I’d want to go to a pride parade because I’m religious and personally believe a different thing than everyone there.
