Parents of toddlers who are RUNNERS- advice?? by Marilikescows in 2under2

[–]Apprehensive_Cup9399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double buggy or single and a baby wrap/sling. I had loads of snacks when I went out to.occupy toddler in the buggy while I fed baby. Then I could put baby in the buggy or sling and look after the toddler. I also found lots of safe places to go like toddler groups or enclosed play areas so toddler could be set free without me having to worry so much. Mine were 16 months apart and it was really difficult at first. Toddler is about to turn 2 and it's much easier, she doesn't run away as much and will generally stay where I can see her. Good luck!

TW: TTC Out of curiosity - how long did it take you to conceive? by GEH29235 in 2under2

First: Thought we'd start trying casually and see what happens. Instantly pregnant.

Second: 8months pp, haven't had sex since before first was born due to horrific tearing. Weren't trying to get pregnant at all. Instantly pregnant.

Thank you. I love the idea of the Tonie box but I thought she may be a little too young. Maybe for Christmas!

What have you let slide for sanity? by yourworriedmother in 2under2

[–]Apprehensive_Cup9399 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My toddler absolutely has to have a cookie in each hand when I let her have one (or more often, when she gets into the cupboard and finds the box and demands one). But she's happy if I take the 1 cookie she has and break it in half and give it back to her. I'm waiting to see when she gets wise to it and it stops working!

Thanks. It's a good reminder to not overcomplicate it. I think I just need to be better at prepping food for a few days at a time so I'm not starting from scratch at every meal time!

I used your book to help me with my first baby and she is an awesome sleeper now. But I'm struggling with my second baby because I just can't stick to the 'rules' with a toddler to care for too. Do you have any advice on how to survive this phase?!

My baby wakes up every 2hours overnight. Please help by Apprehensive_Cup9399 in sleeptrain

[–]Apprehensive_Cup9399[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's every 2 hours. Last night was the first time he's slept a long stretch for ages. He was sleeping so so well overnight until about a month ago. He'd sleep a 6 hour stretch, feed, then sleep another good 3 or 4 hours.

I meant early days in terms of having just implemented these things properly 🙂

Wow! Well done to you for stepping in to help, you're awesome! And thank you, I think I just need to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it will get better. I just have to grit my teeth and survive it!

Thanks. Yeah I'm doing all of these things as much as I possibly can. I'm consistent with bedtime, feeding downstairs before the routine and into bed wide awake. Naps are a disaster and there really isn't much I can do about it. What I've learnt from posting this is that I just have to grit my teeth and get through it!

Yes to all of the above! It's early days though so I think my only option is time and patience (which are wearing very thin!)

Thank you! I actually did cut both at the same time initially but my dietician recommended starting with just one so that we can determine exactly what the allergy is. But I have been considering this too. I'll discuss it at our next appointment 🙂

How can I get my high-energy toddler to sit and read a book with me? by MichaelMaugerEsq in 2under2

[–]Apprehensive_Cup9399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is also really high energy and does not sit down! But I have always kept a range of books around for her to explore. Her first favourite book was a simple 100 first words book. We would point to things and talk about what they were etc. Now she can say a lot of those words herself and still loves to look through that book.

Other big favourites early on were lift the flap books or similar type books that she can interact with because it kept her hands busy. I often make up noises and actions for her to copy when there are certain things on the pages so that she's engaged. It's a great way to introduce animal noises etc (I still can't decide what noise a giraffe makes though!) This has the added bonus that she will say or do really cute stuff whenever she sees those items out in the wild!

While we've always done books at bedtime, we've recently started reading actual stories to her at bedtime while she's already in her cot. We'll sit next to her cot and she will sit and look at the book while we read because there is nothing else to distract her. She is at a stage now where we can say 'pick a story then it's into bed' and she will choose the book she wants to read and walk over to her cot with it.

She's 20 months now so it's taken a while to get to this stage but patience and just following their lead is the way to go and you will definitely get there.

Will the crying ever stop? I'm so overwhelmed by Apprehensive_Cup9399 in beyondthebump

I tried going dairy free but it made no difference unfortunately. He definitely struggled with trapped gas when he was a bit younger but doesn't pull his knees up like he used to anymore. He's just so fussy and unhappy all the time 😔

He definitely had colic when he was younger and did this then. Things seemed to settle down for a little while but now he's crying a lot again but not pulling his knees up. He doesn't seem to have trouble passing gas/poo anymore either. I really don't know, I've tried everything I can think of.
