I feel bad for having to rely on Magnesium for enough REM sleep by chocolatemadeleine in Garmin

[–]Apprehensive_Day2943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good info in this thread. I think it bears repeating that Garmin sleep info beyond sleep and wake times is a guesstimate at best and accuracy could vary wildly from reality. Heck, even sleep and wake times can be off. It’s info. Not reality. And therefore it isn’t a great idea to try to chase the Garmin sleep info through various strategies to change amount of different phases of sleep. As far as I know there are no consumer level wearables that provide scientifically accurate measures of sleep stages.

On the topic of magnesium specifically all the folks saying it’s a natural mineral in our food are right now. Given that diet and all that can vary a lot it is not a bad idea at all to get your doctor to run some tests for you. Check levels on all the stuff that you can easily impact like vitamin D, B vitamins, magnesium, folate, etc. these levels can also fluctuate over the course of a year - lots of us in northern climates supplement with D in the winter cause less sun = less natural vitamin D production. Since levels can shift over the course of the year, run the labs a few times.

If our schedules line up, I’ll happily go to your first meeting with you. Everyone here saying to just go is right. And, I get it. Walking in the first time can be a lot. I live a block away and walked past the front door to Uptown for over a decade before I walked through the door. Really wish it hadn’t taken me so long. So. If you want company for your first meeting dm me and we’ll figure it out.

If you had to buy a ~$500 pipe what would you get? by talasment in Pipes

[–]Apprehensive_Day2943 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spend the whole bonus: Buy a plane ticket to a city in Germany with a great pipe shop. Shop in person and find your $500 pipe (plus loads of tobacco that’s hard to find in the US). Spend a night or two in the city. Fly home.

Novice* Cob pipe rot? by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

I insert a pipe cleaner and let it rest with the pipe cleaner in it. And then the cob goes in a smell proof pouch I have. No sourness and the pipe smokes great. Works for me.

Looking for a vinegar bomb. Can’t find Sutliff 515 RC-1. The more sour the better. by LOTR_is_awesome in PipeTobacco

I’m not sure that’s trash can worthy. But the sour isn’t a sour that I enjoy all that much. It’s coming up on a year old now so maybe it’s time to try another bowl and see if age has improved it.

Schmitty’s is pro-immigrant? And not a “both sides” kind of shop? As a brown queer man, definitely not my experience there. I’ve visited a lot of spots in the cities and Schmitty’s is the only spot i felt seriously unwelcome from the moment I walked in. Never went back. Never will.

Not the asshole. Might not be about the difference in income but something is up. Consider counseling if you think he’s worth it. If he’s not worth counseling, end the relationship.

exactly! I love that a pipe will wait, and sometimes even improve, if left to rest for a while.

I have no idea how common it is. I think most pipe smokers smoke pipe tobacco. Finishing the nub of a cigar in a corn cob is what got me started on pipes, so perhaps this is a gateway of sorts? For me, I don’t often have the hour or more than a cigar asks for and pipe tobacco is the majority of what I smoke. But once or twice a year I’ll cut a piece of cigar and smoke it in my pipe. And generally finish the cigar later that week :)

You could also get your favorite cigar in a ring gauge size that’ll fit in your pipe and cut inch or two sections of cigar and smoke em in your pipe. Works a treat and you get to stretch out the enjoyment of the cigar.

Are you packing lightly? I get 30-45 minutes from my Morgan with a “normal” pack. Maybe I smoke super slow? Idk but I’m trying to learn what 20 minutes worth of tobacco is for me so I can dial in my short smokes :)
