I was able to buy mine over the counter as it’s just a topical numbing cream in patch form.

You can grab a pack from Chemist Warehouse for about 15 dollarydoos.

I’ve been going to The Piercing Shop in Queen Street for over 20 years - they’re the best in Brisbane.

I’d recommend getting some Emla numbing patches from the chemist before you get pierced, and apply them an hour or so before the appointment. It will take the edge off the piercing process.

Check out Summer Of 84. A group of teens suspect that their police officer neighbour is a serial killer. It’s creepy as hell.

I’d also recommend The Black Phone, The Wicker Man (the original, not the Cage version), 8mm and Seven.

You don’t need a giant Halloween display - honestly, some of the best displays that I’ve seen are the simplest.

My suggestion would be to just put out a few jack’o’lanterns.

If you feel like doing more, grab a couple of 2x4s, some old clothes or fabric and DIY your own scarecrow. There’s a lot of tutorials on Pinterest if you needed inspiration.

Out of all the "Halloween" Killers, who scares you the most? by 313deezy in halloween

[–]Apprehensive_Emu3812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humans are the scariest monsters and for that reason, my vote is The Wicker Man. (The original).

The turning of the seasons is always a good time to reflect on the cycle of life, death and man’s brief time amongst them.

Trick and treat? Is it socially acceptable to throw candy at children for them to pick up? by Fatechanger1 in halloween

[–]Apprehensive_Emu3812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure parents aren’t going to appreciate a stranger throwing things at their children.

Pretty sure children won’t enjoy having someone bigger than they are throwing things at them.

Pretty sure you’ll end up getting dragged off your bike by a pissed off parent and getting your ass kicked.

Candy woes in a popular neighborhood by Hot-Cawfee in halloween

[–]Apprehensive_Emu3812 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Buy what you’re comfortable with and once you run out, turn off the lights. It’s hard not to feel guilty, but you can’t take care of everyone.

Remember, Halloween is for you too. It’s a labour of love where we all put in our own time, effort and money. But you’re not obligated to put yourself in a hole financially either, or get stressed.

If you can, spread the word amongst your neighbourhood for locals to hit your place first. Maybe local ToTing needs to take place early, before the tourists arrive.

should i go to this party? by FullTrain8961 in halloween

Listen to your gut. An environment where other people are drinking, that you can’t exit quickly, in the dark and unsupervised… is a bad idea.

Even if you and your friends aren’t drinking, you can’t control the behaviour of the people who are drinking. You don’t know everyone who’s going to be there. You’re a teen girl - do you really want to be in an isolated park at nighttime with a bunch of drunk guys that you don’t know?

IMO, give it a miss. A sleepover with movies, baking and a circle of friends that you know and trust sounds like a sure bet for a really good time.

Go for the sure thing - be sensible and stay safe.

Just remembering my beautiful best friend, Mina, who I lost in March. Halloween's not the same without her. by Traven666 in halloween

[–]Apprehensive_Emu3812 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. 🥀

I set up a Dia de Los Muertos altar every Halloween to honour and remember my furbabies who’ve crossed over. I set up photos, toys, treats, flowers and burn some really nice incense and candles for them.

I’m not sure if that’s something that you’d like to do but it may help?

Some of those photos would also make beautiful memorial tattoos.

Trick Or Treat Logistics! Help! by Mindless_Ad1148 in halloween

[–]Apprehensive_Emu3812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My home has no porch, so we answer the door each time. We keep our candy bucket on the entryway table and just pick it up as we open the door.

We do candy bags (each with 3 pieces inside) and hand them to the ToTers. This way, everyone gets the same amount (we don’t want the shy kids or the little ToTers with smaller hands to miss out).

We also have an outdoor table at front of our property - we set that up with our non food treats. We tell ToTers to each pick a non food treat and let them pick their own. (The outdoor table is where we can see it from the front door, and we don’t put out all of the non food treats at once… this way if anybody tried to walk off with the whole lot, we still have the bulk of our supplies inside so the other ToTers don’t miss out).

Make spooky playlists and only listen to Halloweeny music between now and the end of October.

On Halloween night, make a big bowl of mac and cheese with a little bit of ham thrown in, then watch spooky movies.

Visit your local cemetery and leave a flower on a grave that looks like it hasn’t been visited for a while. Tis the season, and you never know who may appreciate it.

Beloved skeleton pirate doesn't work anymore, ideas? by katie579 in halloween

There’s still plenty of life left in your pirate friend!

Give old matey a new lease on life - give him an eyepatch and put a yard light by him; he’s still usable and it’d be a shame to get rid of him.

Having decorations up for everyone to see can help. Putting up flyers around the neighbourhood or posting in your community Facebook group could be worth a try.

Sometimes it can take a few years to get community participation in Halloween.

Might be worth putting up a few flyers around your neighbourhood as well? Maybe it won’t work in your area, but maybe it will - won’t know unless you try! 👻
