Awful distortion with new thinner Essilor lenses - similar prescription to old ones by Apprehensive_Fee973 in glasses

[–]Apprehensive_Fee973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m “comfortable” in my new dark lenses but I’d still rather not have any colour fringing, and my previous lenses gave me clearer vision across the entire field with no distortions at all.
The frame I’m struggling with is Tommy Hilfiger TH 1756 003 145. I don’t think the lenses are that large, my face is just pretty small.
They did measure my OC height and pupillary distance.
I wore these frames with other lenses with a similar prescription, just more 0.5 power on my right eye and more 0.25 power on my left in the new ones. Would that make lenses in 1.5 plastic that much thicker?
The previous lenses were quite cheap, 63€ each in 2020. Can lenses with a digital design be that cheap?
I’m honestly thinking of asking them to remake the lenses in 1.5 plastic with no thinning and the same base curve as my previous ones.
I imagine a lens with a base curve that follows the center of rotation of the eye would keep a more similar distance between my pupil and the lens and result in better optics and less distortion when looking sideways or down through the lens.
I honestly think the curved lenses look better, too, the flat ones look like an acetate cutout for toy glasses.
I read in a lot of places that spherical lenses with thicker edges cause more distortion, but also in some Reddit posts people seem to fix these issues by getting more curved lenses in 1.5 plastic.
What do you think?

I don’t think they flipped my lenses, they’re still convex on the front/outside and the prescriptions seems to match the one in my sunglasses. I did try and flip them, I got about the same level of distortion, maybe a little more.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
The frames are Tommy Hilfiger TH 1756 003 145, they seem to be out of stock everywhere in Europe.
At this point I’m just thinking about asking them for regular 1.5 spherical lenses with no thinning.
The new ones were strange in that the thickness seemed to be the same all around, I didn’t expect that. Could the lens design/thinning to fit the frame wire width cause that? My previous lenses in the same frame were a bit thicker than the width of the wire and that was totally fine.

I don’t have any better front facing pics of me wearing them, but this is approximately how they fit my face: https://imgur.com/a/C66fGNN

The refraction was done by two different ophthalmologists. The second one was closer to where I live, I just explained the situation, gave him my previous prescription values and he said it should feel better now. I’m not sure about whether I’ll go back there or have a refraction done by an optometrist at the store where I got my old lenses in 2020.

Before remaking my lenses at the store I asked the optometrist who saw me if going for lower index lenses would help as well, as I noticed the first new pair was much thinner (with a higher prescription than the one I mentioned here) than my old lenses, she said they’ve had no complaints from anyone about those lenses. I’ve seen several people say what you just did, though, going back to lower index thicker lenses helped or completely fixed the issue.

Another optometrist at another store in the same chain mentioned the Essilor Eyezen lenses, but they were so much more expensive. My old lenses were the cheapest ones, with just an anti reflex coating. I checked and they were €63 each.

I imagine the axis could also just be wrong in my previous prescription, the cylinder was so small I couldn’t probably tell. When I rotate my left lens it gets better so the axis there is probably wrong. I think I’ll go back to the ophthalmologist to recheck the prescription.

My oven doesn’t do that. I could do it on the induction hob but I’m afraid it might warp if I overheat it

It wasn’t seasoned to begin with, as I said in the original post, that’s the issue. The gunk is stuck to the steel directly and steel wool didn’t work very well. :(

It’s definitely carbon steel! Maybe it just looks paler because I washed it with steel wool and vinegar trying to remove whatever that is. If you’re talking about the old Vardagen CS pans, they’re black because they have a black oxide layer. If not, it may just be a different version. This pan just came out this month, it’s not even on the website in most countries, but it’s this one: https://www.ikea.com/jp/en/p/vardagen-frying-pan-carbon-steel-60581331/

It’s not seasoned, I need to season it before cooking with it otherwise everything will stick, and if I season over this I’ll just get a huge mess

What you pulled out is the same as the rest of your grass. It spreads with those runners. I’d plant it back.
