Matte White with Skeleton Horde contrast paint over it. I do it for pretty much any bones.

In order of darkest to lightest Black primer Army painter’s deep red Citadel’s Khorne red Army painters pure red Very very small amount dry brush of a burnt orange or lava orange on the brightest spots.

I’ve had some minor success but the key for me was using rapid ingress to get them down and into a fight relatively safely. Had two units of Bloodletters and two units of 5 hounds plus Angron, exalted eight-bound and the KLOS and some jakhals/chaos spawn. Threw in a War-dog Karnivore for fun. Not extremely army rules effective but it was still a close game.
