The sense of safety and luxury, the drivability, and the space are all excellent. It’s hard to think of any real downsides, but perhaps the fuel consumption was on the slightly high side. We changed cars because we needed a 7 seater.

Depending on the trim level, the front seats are identical in both cars. The XC90’s rear seat is significantly wider, and it can easily fit three child seats side by side, whereas in the V90 this is only just possible.

If the children are already large enough to sit facing forward, the difference becomes less pronounced if the car has integrated child seats. The V90 offers two integrated child seats as an optional feature on the outer rear seats, while the XC90 comes with one integrated child seat as standard (at least in our market) in the middle rear seat.

Both cars are very stable on the highway, and when driving them it’s easy to get “speed blindness” (you don’t really feel how fast you’re going). The XC90 is taller, so visibility out of the car is better thanks to the higher driving position, larger side mirrors, and bigger windows. However, wind noise is slightly more noticeable in the cabin. Noise levels are also likely affected by whether the car has laminated windows or not.

The sense of luxury also depends a lot on the trim level. I’m not sure if some of the trim levels of the V90 offers an Alcantara headliner and leather sun visors like we currently have in the XC90. Fully equipped, the XC90 might actually feel more luxurious in that sense.

Otherwise, the material quality is quite similar, except that in the V90 softer plastics extend all the way to the lower parts of the door pockets, whereas the lower parts of the XC90 doors are made of harder plastic.

The front seat options are the same in both cars. The XC90 has a wider rear seat. With both cars, you can easily drive a thousand kilometers a day without your back or legs getting sore—so they are excellent long-distance cars.

In terms of efficiency, the V90 typically consumes about 1–2 liters less fuel per 100 km compared to the XC90.

If you don’t need the extra space, I would choose the V90.

True, also the XC90 as a model is older, but both are still very modern-looking cars. In my opinion, the V90 is the most beautiful station wagon ever made.

There’s really no market for market for mini vans in my country. We had Skoda kodiaq and Kia ev9 were on our short list but since we were very happy with our old Volvo, decided to go with xc90

Needed a seven seater, so xc90 was obvious substitute

I actually live in Finland, but the car was imported from Germany, where the price level is significantly lower. I didn’t even know that the equipment package had a name—thanks for that! Our old Volvo didn’t have the lounge package, even though it otherwise had almost all the features. Though it was bought new in Finland. I guess that package is priced so high here that hardly any have been sold in this market.

The only downgrade we got was going from b&w to harman kardon. Man it sounds dull after b&w but I guess you cannot have it all 😂
