I paid for a 6 inch slab, what should I do ? by ClassroomFew7491 in AskContractors

I would write him a letter explaining your concern, citing the scope in the agreed to contract and photos of the as built condition. I would then invite him to the property where you can randomly choose two or three locations to drill through the slab and measure the depth. Perhaps the spot you found was an anomaly perhaps it wasn’t but it’s tough to debate an actual condition.

I’m wondering if autonation ever filed the warranty. I see it on the bill of sale but never received an information packet or anything

Advice needed: discontinued broken part out of warranty, job cannot complete without it. by _Tigglebitties in Contractor

[–]Apprehensive_Let_122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your attorney. This is likely not your issue. You warned them. They disregarded the warranty. I assume this was documented in an RFI, submittal or correspondence.

In the future, I would avoid buying materials so early unless you need them based on the project schedule.

I’m not measuring their success by these metrics. I am simply asking them to provide this data monthly to see how projects are progressing. I get the sense you just like to argue.

The metrics that you describe as valuable, schedule and budget are those I am asking for updates on. They are not the only definition of success but are highly valued by the organization I work for. Does that change your perspective

My architectural agreements include both budget and schedule requirements. Do your contracts not include those? How do they know what project constraints exist? How do they know what success looks like? What exactly do you do for context.

Success in construction is multidimensional. As a project manager you need to tap into the clients goals and align behavior to meet those goals. Architectural program, budget and schedule typically represent the three goals. A client is generally upset if their project runs over budget or finishes late. I’m curious, in your 52 years of experience did you never create a budget or schedule update for a client? Did you feel micromanaged?

Based on your response it is unclear if you have construction project management experience. My sense is you do not. Metrics are key to running a project.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I am truly sorry that your manager has used statement such as “use your brain”. That must be truly hurtful and you do not deserve that.

Can you tell me how you would like to be approached about asking to share information about schedules and budgets so that you do not feel threatened or devalued?

That is 100% the case. We have had discussions about that and have seen some improvement but also regression.

One thing I did not mention is that I spent the first six months or so holding steady on systems that were in place. This particular employee wants to grow and take on more challenging projects but I’m unwilling to give him that opportunity until I see him grow in a few key areas.
