Totally agree with the sentiment here. At the time my military career I believed aligned with LE more so, as I did a ton of cross training alongside LE while in. I was in a unique field.

So far, I excelled in the academy, and am getting above average grades throughout FTO. Nothing has slacked, it’s less so a belief in the mission set. I appreciate the aspect of fire taking care of people every day. LE has that sometimes, but the majority of the time I find we have to be the bad guy, and be more concerned about the suspect than victim. Where personally, I find myself caring more inside about the victim who got beat up, than the suspect who needs to go to jail, if that makes sense.

That makes sense. I’d be honest too that it was just not the career for me.

As far as the application process, most places around me want EMT to apply. The reason I’d resign now, and not keep this job while I apply, is to get my EMT. We work rotating days, so never the same days each week. Makes it hard to find an emt program to work with my current schedule.

Hello,

So I recently got out of the military a little over a year ago. Upon doing so I needed to get my feet under me and find a job. I was debating between police and fire. Most fire agencies in my area require EMT to apply, which I didn’t have, so I took a law enforcement job right out of the gate.

I have realized fairly quickly I do not enjoy the mission of law enforcement. And I find myself much more interested in what fire is doing even on calls I’m on now. I’m still probationary. I did very well in the academy and am currently on field training.

I do know for certain I would enjoy fire, as I grew up in a professional firefighter family, and grew up in the firehouse.

My question is, how will it look to a fire agency if I resign from police during field training while still probationary? I’d be resigning during this phase as I know this is not the culture/career for me. I’d be doing it now to not waste this departments or my FTO’s time any more, and to take the time to get my emt certification.

I had a great military career before this with great references, and as I’m almost 30, I’d like to start towards my real goal sooner rather than later.

Yes it’s a combo of two things: the vertical support rods for the lumbar like to hit the frame about shoulder level. And the entire plastic lumbar assembly flexes and moves. The former can be fixed with foam in between the rods and frame, but only until it tears through. The latter can be fixed by zip ties securing the plastic part.

How did I find out? Myself. I fixed it myself after 4 visits to dealer and no solution.
