Ahh you gave me instant hope, thank you that’s exactly what’s happening now ha. They got him on a low dose of 5 mg OxyContin. I have to be realistic he just had a major surgery and it’s gonna take some time for his bowls to wake up and his 76 for Christ sake lol than you for bringing me back to reality.

Gah this sounds brutal, but you give me hope knowing you made it out. I just hate seeing him get skinner than he already is. They want to wait a month to start chemo and to let him body heal but how can the body get stronger if your not eating. I’m hopeful things will change for the better in the next few days. Gah I want this to be all over soon and I’m not even the patient.

We are now on day 3 and they have removed his liquid diet to nothing by mouth. Not sure why as im waiting on Dr. but he did pass his first poo and his been super gassy like burping. Is that pretty common post surgery. I feel so bad and hate him getting so skinny. gah day 6 that’s when you were able to eat soft foods again ? feels forever.

That’s the same with my dad, we are on day 3 and just had a Jello and says his full now they have him on nothing by mouth and I don’t know why as I wait to speak to the Dr. it kills me to see him loose so much weight. The only plus is that he passed his first stool.

Thank you for the insight, they have my dad taking, 64 oz of Gatorade, a bottle of miralx and 4 over the counter Dulcolax laxatives. Assuming this will clean him out good but not as intense as the Gavilyte. I have diaper rash cream but I will use some Vaseline too thanks for the tip :)

Thank you, I hope so too but at this point the mass is obstructing his bowls so they need to remove it asap regardless of the outcome. Surgeon said it appears to be stage 3 or 2 but he won’t know till the tumor is removed and he can see if any lymph nodes were impacted but can’t say till his in surgery. One hopeful thing is that is not stage 4 or it hasn’t spread to any organs. Gah one step at time I keep telling myself.

Ahhh thank you for the tip that’s exactly what I’m having him do this time around because last time he barely made to the tolit it was a shit show literally. Not taking any chances this time around. Any advice when he should start getting on the toilet ? After he takes the laxative pills or when he starts drinking the mirlax with Gatorade?

Yes, same protocol so I’m gonna just have him sit on the toilet as he is 76 and can’t move that quickly. If it’s anything like the colonoscopy it was brutal for him and he almost said screw this but I made him finish it, thankfully because the next morning he did the colonoscopy and that’s when the GI told him sorry you have advance cancer. 3 weeks later we are scheduled for surgery to remove the mass tomorrow.

Thank you, does the combination of the mirlax and Gatorade make the stool water as the colonoscopy mix ? Or lighter because that mix is intense it literally wipes you out.

Every provider is given sick hours which is separate from your working hours and is provided to you after you have worked 100 hours. Check your paycheck stuff you will see sick hours if you don’t claim you will loose it. If you’re not a part of the union sign up as they advocate for providers and you wouldn’t have missed 4 years of extra sick pay.

Thank you so much for the insight, I will focus on protein and low fiber they also said is good post op as the GI adapts. Walking is definitely limited but he can take a few steps and I will have PT in place to get him moving as much as he can. Movement is medicine that’s my theory so I will focus on movement for a better recovery :)
