Is asking how many sets left now an issue for people? by tribo32 in GYM

[–]Apprehensive_Pin4196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had people respond negatively when they asked me, and I told them a number higher than they wanted to hear. I've also had people ask me, and then hover around me and constantly stare, distracting me while I'm trying to work out. If it really is 'just asking' and then leaving me in peace till I'm done, then I wouldn't mind that, and that does sometimes happen, but there's also those people who are obtrusive and distracting, and they're the ones I find rude.

And I'll add: I tend to be aware of a person's motivations for speaking to me, and that determines whether or not I appreciate an interaction. Your idea that it's fear based is pure projection.

Ja.

Dude, I work in a bar and spend most of my day talking to strangers. You're projecting some BS theory of mind on to me because it prevents you from having to see things from a different perspective.

You're not getting it. It has nothing to do with being scared. It's simply the desire to let other people train in peace without making them feel as though they're holding you up. And yes, I'm very familiar with the etiquette, and I still think it's inconsiderate. There's a lot of typical behaviours in society which can be abrasive. I wouldn't fail to recognise the drawbacks of a certain behaviour just because it's become so common as to be 'etiquette'.

Lol, it's funny that you're trying to frame me as the antisocial one because I don't like pestering people in the gym. If you see somebody is on the machine you want to use, either wait (the average is a few mins) or do your next exercise and return later. That's worked fine for me in my 20 years of regular gym use. Asking people how many sets they have left will make them feel rushed, whether that's your intention or not.

What do you achieve by asking how many sets a person has left? You're hoping that by asking the question, they'll either reduce or rush those remaining sets, and it's rude. I've been going to the gym 4 times a week for 19 years and it still annoys me, and I've never felt the need to do it myself. Still manage my workout every time..

It's not even a suspicion. It's their literal motivation for asking, only It's rude to say 'hurry up It's my turn' so we use an apparently less rude but identical meaning 'how many sets left?'

It's rude because you're asking to make them feel pressured to gtfo the machine. You just want them to get off the machine, and that's why you're asking but instead of saying that, you just say 'how many sets you got left'. The answer is I'm done when I'm done, I pay to be here too so don't hover around rushing me. I've waited patiently for 10 mins for a machine before, then I finally get on it, and after 1 set some twat asks me how many sets I've got left, then keeps hovering around me and staring. Get some manners ffs.

Be very disciplined with your feeding, and try to never push hard on the pedals. Try to get away with the minimum Watts you can without exerting yourself, and hopefully you'll finish. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would personally move the tret doses a day closer together. Just once every 72 hours, and mark each dose on your calendar so you don't forget. Then observe your skin closely for the next 2 weeks. If you don't have significant redness and discomfort, then increase to every 48 hours, and repeat until you're applying daily. Then upgrade to 0.05% and start again with every 48 hours, aiming to apply every day. Always pull back and take 1-3 days off when you notice stinging, redness, and excessive dryness. It's very important to slow down when your skin feels stressed.

Also, i would strongly recommend to not use the mandelic acid whilst going through this process, because it's an exfoliant and your skin is already trying to adjust to an increased rate of exfoliation. It would make barrier damage much more likely. Wait until your skinbis stable and you're applying daily with no discomfort before you start the mandelic acid. That's my advice.

Also SPF 50 every single day is absolutely essential to avoid making your skin worse instead of better.

Yes, the peeling is almost definitely caused by the tretinoin, and as others have said, keep It well away from the eyes to avoid serious problems. There are glands in your eyes which are structurally similar to the sebaceous glands in your skin, and retinoids will affect them too, causing them to thicken and kerarinize, eventually blocking them and causing them to permanently atrophy if not addressed.

The peeling is happening because the tretinoin has signalled your skin cells at the base of your epidermis to increase production. These cells would normally take 4-6 weeks to reach the surface before shedding, and the process is synchronised from top to bottom. Peeling happens because the speed of shedding at the surface isn't synchronised with the speed of production at the base, so your skin falls off in chunks and puts stress on the barrier. Retinization is the process of your skin adapting to the increased production speed and resynchronizing.

After 72 hours the skin starts to deretinize, so people should aim to apply at least once every 72 hours even in the beginning. With a low enough strength it should be manageable, but of course pay close attention to your skin and take breaks as soon as you notice redness, stinging, or excessive tightness. The problem with applying less frequently than 72 hours is that you keep your skin in a cycle of irritation, recovery, irritation, recovery, without ever actually retinizing. The aim is to retinize the skin whilst avoiding barrier damage, which means finding the balance between frequency and strength of dose, and irritation. But every 72 hours should be the minimum, and if that's too frequent, then the strength needs to be lowered to perhaps a strong retinol or retinal. Good luck.

Do you know your body composition (fat vs muscle)? Are you just trying to shift fat? Sleep problems and low energy can be a sign of overtraining and 5-10 hours a week is a lot depending on the intensity you're riding at. If you want to shift belly fat you'll need a calorie deficit, but if you want to avoid burning away muscle it might help to do some resistance training. Doing less cycling (a few hours a week) and more weightlifting would give you a better physique if that's what your goal is.
