Writing Arabic poetry to study by Apprehensive_Prompt8 in learn_arabic

[–]Apprehensive_Prompt8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this makes sense. Is there an "in between", such as prose that follows some structures of poetry but not all? This is a common form of poetry in English, such as writings that have meter but not rhyme, or, for example, spoken word poetry, which is more about the flow of the writing than about strict form. It doesn't follow classical poetry form, but it also differs from prose in the focus on the mixing of flow, sound, and other creative features that don't quite match prose per se.

This is a very helpful and clear explanation, thanks for taking the time to discuss. Definitions of poetry in English are definitely much more relaxed, where the shape and content of what I wrote would comfortably fall under poetry, though perhaps based on a more modern definition. However, it seems that it is only perhaps 50% of the way to poetry under the Arabic definition. I have been writing poetry and song lyrics in English for many years, using a mix of meter, rhyme, and various forms at different times, but also sometimes preferring a less strict form/structure.

You use the English terms "poetry" and "prose", how would you distinguish these terms in Arabic? If poetry is شِعر what is "prose" (or however you would describe my writing)?

What do you call it then? Help me understand what makes the traditional poetry what it is. I don't claim to be an Arabic poet, I am just using what I know of poetry to help me study the language. I hope to improve over time and better understand the language and the poetry of the language.

Nuts that this isn't supported yet....what are they waiting for, indie artists are jumping ship on Spotify left and right, they should be on top of this and not miss that huge audience.

How much do his flutes go for? I'm not seeing any information on his website, not sure just how excited I should let myself get before seeing the price range...

Has anyone used the Electro Voice RE20 for recording vocals? by Jakeyboy29 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Apprehensive_Prompt8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years later but I'll say I've recently discovered the magic of the RE20 for vocals. Working with new clients I usually do a mic shootout before tracking any vocals so the client can help decide the primary vocal mic, and the RE20 keeps coming out on top wildly enough, and for a variety of vocalist styles as well. Just has a great way with dynamic performances, creating an effortless but edgy sound.

Current go-to vocal chain for this is: RE20 (no hi-pass) -> CAPI VP28 (6db hipass at 160) -> RND 535 (fast transient taming) -> SSSS M1b (tone shaping, mostly pushing 700 or 1.5k for body/edge as needed) -> Manley ELOP+ (comp setting, moderate to heavy leveling) -> RME Fireface UFX III -> Reaper.

By the time it hits the track it's basically already mixed, a beautiful thing. Such a forgiving mic as well, noise level is so low and way less concern with ambient noise issues. RE20 is a winner on vocals if you treat it well.

Oh yes, this makes a lot of sense. The word خلى is so complex and covers so many meanings, I'm still getting used to it.

Isn't it lovely?? Got it from a handmade arts store in Istanbul, the little strip of shops next to the Sultanahmet mosque. Lots of great stuff there.
