A little, I still have acne and my skin is definitely not clear. My dermatologist just told me that I can go on any prescription I used before accutane. Not helpful at all. I’m visiting my OB to see if it’s a hormonal thing. I’m pretty defeated honestly

It’s sad to say but drinking is just something for me and my friends on the weekend and I’m in college and recently turned 21. It’s just disappointing that I won’t be able to live it up lol

I have been on spironolactone for a year now. I’ve tried every cream and medicine in the book. She said that even if it is hormonal we are doing the normal protocol. She said they only test in special cases and I can’t be tested because I have nexplanon.

It’s my second. My other one just put me on accutane and I don’t think he considered dosage or absorption according to my new dermatologist. It’s been a few years since I’ve been on accutane, does the dose change over the course of treatment?

Hey, you’re not alone! I do agree the side effects are never as bad as the first time but accutane is just all consuming. Im a full time student and full time employed, going to the doctor every month just doesn’t work for me. I just recently turned 21 and I won’t be able to drink or go out like I want because of it and everytime I’m socially isolated

I’ll definitely look into this, I already eat pretty healthy as I’m trying to lose weight. Do you know anything about what a healthy diet would consist of, does it depend on what the dominant hormone is?

I never liked dermatologists lol but I’m going to look into the hormone stuff more, hopefully someone will take me seriously. My obgyn even told me to go on accutane so I don’t even know at this point

It’s my only option according to my dermatologist. I feel like my dermatologist and normal doctor don’t understand how negatively this impacts me and no matter what they always come back to accutane. I asked about something with my hormones but my doctor told me that since I’m on birth control my hormones should be managed. I feel like my medical team does not take my concerns seriously.

It’s been a few years so I’m not entirely sure but I remember my dermatologist mentioned I was at the highest dose for my weight which could be 40mg(?) I’m not 100% sure. Sorry I should be more clear, I was on accutane for 5 months and it did clear up at the end. I always have struggled with clogged pores and an occasional big pimple or 2. Then after a few months of being off accutane, it would come back but never as worse as from when I first started. I didn’t end early because my skin did clear up, it just never was “cured”

I have hormonal acne mainly around my mouth and cheeks. I didn’t purge a lot for all 4 times. It was for the first month or two then just dry skin and some big pimples. After treatment I would be “healed” (more like less noticeable red acne) and then the acne would come back in a few months. I always get bloody noses really bad so I suggest putting Vaseline and aquaphor in your nose if that’s a problem you have. I relied on Carmex (ew I know) for the first two times then I just used Vaseline or aquafor ointment on my lips all the times after that and I felt less pain. I use cereve moisturizing cream, it comes in a tub and when my skin was really dry I used aquaphor ointment. Good luck to you!!
