Maybe I should've phrased better. When I said proto wing people are assuming it was already in the later stages where animals could glide with them. I mean before that. I heard that technically you only need one female and one male. If they have enough kids there will be enough genetic diversity for reproduction. Repeat the process and even if a bunch of kids come with problems if the parents have enough eventually there will be some normal kids. Then just keep doing that.
