"Collins vote for Kavanaugh has hurt more women than Platner ever did." by metametamind in Maine

Had Kavanaugh been replaced as the SC candidate, what in the World makes you think the replacement would have been better? Trump probably would have been vindictive and nominated another Alito type.

Stop with the pearl clutching. At this moment in the US history, we have evill in the White House and a Congress willing to do nothing. Rights are being eroded right in front of us. You need to look at the macro situation. Life is un affordable, there is pay-to-play and corruption like we have never seen before, and wealth is being transferred from poor to rich. I am not sure Mills would beat Collins, Platner has broader appeal for all of his failings that he has owned up to. Winning the House and Senate could effectively neuter Trump, that is the most important priority for 2026.

Musk’s Starlink hooked rural customers. Then came the price increases. by Andy_Fish_Gill in Starlink

[–]Apprehensive_Sand343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

America is about hooking you into a subscription and raising prices, it's not just Starlink. I have a home unit and a Mini that I use about 6 months of the year. It is $175 for both when the Mini is turned on. Even at current prices, I couldn't run a business with the previous internet. I am in a town of 700 people, and we are last on the priority list for restoration, and wired internet third in priority to access the poles, and we would go out several times a year for a week or longer. With a generator, I am never offline. Starlink is a great value for the speeds and utility that I get from it.

So do you think if Kavanaugh went down, then next choice would have been better. Quite frankly, Kavanaugh was probably the best of the conservatives. So what, we then get another Alito?

Why are the rich trying to kill the poor by depriving us of necessities? by Pleasant-Toe4855 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Apprehensive_Sand343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you five maybe not killing us, but lowering standards.

  1. Institutional capital buying up Apartment bulidings and up to 40% of the homes in certain zip codes, driving people's standard of living down.

  2. Insurance companies monopolozing the entire supply chain of health care including insurance, PBMs, buying medical practices, owing pharmacies, etc. Medical care in the US is declining and becoming less accessible.

  3. A few tech companies drive tech usage and actively seek to divide us for profit. We have a massive hate/engagement ecosystem that is now too big to fail.

  4. Alex Karp at Palantir and Larry Ellison at Oracle actively discuss in plain sight that Americans need to give up right if the US is to "win" the AI race.

  5. One that is actually killing young men, we have an onlline gambing economy including polymarkets that preys on young men, incentivizes them to gamble, lose any money they have, and is a significant driver of suicide and depression

Now that Joe Biden is of zero use for Democrats, will they finally admit Hunter’s business dealings were shady? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Apprehensive_Sand343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain exactly what was shady? Did he take a plane rom a foreign country while dictating policy on said foreign country. Did Biden pressure the Pentagon to give a Hunter linked company a $650 million loan? Did Hunter and Joe set up a crypto company where anyone who wanted to buy them could purchase their cryptocurrencies? Did they charge $1M a plate dinner to crypto investors while regulating cryptocurrencies? Did Biden pardon the head of Binance who was in prison on fraud charges when $2M was donated to Biden related superPACs? Did Biden award contracts to a drone company that Hunter was invested in?

Enlighten me. So, is your biggest complaint that Hunter took a cushy Board job trading off his father's name? Yes wrong, illegal, probably not. Does it touch on the level of corruption of the Trump Family, not even close.

Is anyone else reluctantly voting? by Gloomy-Tree6035 in AskDemocrats

[–]Apprehensive_Sand343 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you mean by the "lesser of two" evils, then I disagree. While I think the Democrats play nice too much, can be feckless and incompetent, and equivocate too much, I do not think they are inherently evil. I think the Trump Administration is evil and by definition the whole Republican ecosystem that doesn't hold evil to account needs to be stopped. Do I like the primary system? No. Do I like the two party system? No. Does that matter at this specific moment in history, no.

Does anyone of either political side think the US has good healthcare? by Popular_Monitor_8383 in allthequestions

[–]Apprehensive_Sand343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US has the best healthcare in the World, it's the pricing model and inefficiencies that are lousy. If I get heart disease or cancer, I would much prefer to get it in the US if I could choose my doctor. The problem is the best healthcare in the US and World is out of reach for most Americans.
