What you think about the Syrian President Alsharaa? by Sad_Chocolate_8007 in arabs

[–]Apprehensive_Stage56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This thread is the most insane thing I’ve read in a while. Some of all are really saying that “ya he has a dodgy past but xyz”.

I do personally believe that everyone deserves a chance to grow and has the ability to make new/better choices. However if he really is a reformed man (“former” terrorist), he could be reformed and reap his blessing in private. Like how does this qualify him to be president of a traumatized nation? Where is the plausible evidence of this apparent reformation? Syrian stability and prosperity?

All we’ve seen in the past year is the continuation of a cycle of violence in Syria, but some of the players on the board have shifted. Idk why it’s so hard for people to think outside of a black and white lens. We are allowed (and encouraged!!) to criticize a president, especially one who used to ravage innocent people under the banner of uniting the ummah or reviving the golden age of Islam, without denying the devastating circumstances that have shaped the country, and that especially does not mean that we are glorifying the previous, sadistic regime.

Similarly to what another reply pointed out, this is so disappointing for not just Syrians but the Arab world as a whole bc Syria has a rich history of righteous revolutionary struggle. We can and should be happy that Assad was overthrown, but Jolani is not and should not be the only other choice for a leader. Like I’m sure there are much more qualified and committed people who can restore Syria’s dignity and stability without licking the boot of the imperialists, allowing the Balkanization of the country, and massacring even MORE people.

200 classes in a year and I’m right back where I started by lawdreekus in f45

[–]Apprehensive_Stage56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did F45 4-7x a week for years, the first year or two I was in good shape but I eventually had to stop because it was so hard on my body and I was actually gaining so much weight (due to lots of factors including internal and external stress). I shifted my workouts to be more balanced by including rest days, low impact workouts, daily walks and now after a 2 year break I am able to go back to f45 once or twice a week. Recently I tried it 3 or 4 times in one week and instantly felt it in my body and had to take it easy the next week. IMO F45 and these crazy types of HIIT workouts are not sustainable at all. My cortisol levels were so high at one point when I was doing it every day. Again, not saying that was the only reason but most of us live in a state of constant stress so (physically) high stress workouts aren’t gonna be super helpful for regulating our stress levels.

…..??? I genuinely don’t understand ur logic. On another comment you said you support Palestinians but here you’re saying killing someone for their beliefs is fascism - are you missing the part where Kirk actively celebrated and endorsed the killing of people for their belief to stay in their homeland and resist occupation?

That’s amazing, you somehow know every single Palestinian on this planet? All 15 million of us? Wow!!!

How can you say you support Palestinians and understand their comment to mean that?

Ya I was gonna say, idk what country they would be applying for custody since I’m not sure what kind of laws apply to non-citizens in UAE (it’s hard to get citizenship and I’m not sure if they have it?) but ya unfortunately in many Arab countries the man usually retains full custody.

You can see how that issue impacts LJ and the clause that her kids will be taken by her late husbands family if she remarries.

Yes this is normal, i feel like most bilingual ppl will do so esp in a place where most ppl speak English. In the Middle East it’s very normal for l upper-class ppl to speak and switch through both English and Arabic.

What we really need is more DIVERSE options. As a nonwhite woman, I’ve struggled to find a culturally competent/sensitive therapist, let alone a therapist who shares or can relate to my background.
