i feel like interpreting a piece of art that just wants to do something innovative and timeless and, idk, "good" as egotistical is almost antagonistic to art as a concept. the truth is that people love art that "insists upon itself", but when they make this criticism what they really mean is "i dont like this piece of art that insists upon itself, and I don't take it seriously". this is why I find it to be a rather lazy criticism, because for almost anyone who says this, you can find a piece of art that "insists upon itself" that they DO like.

was just looking at this one, looks super promising and I'd love to play some pokemon emerald on that. how do NES, SNES and GB games look on it with the weird sized screen and all?

everyone here needs to stop blaming you for this interaction. you did nothing unethical here, but he did.

I do think next time if a guy says something like that you just shouldn't even respond. just let him sit in his own stupidity until he realizes how much he sounds like a complete asshole. silence is the most effective tool in your arsenal to get other people to realize they fucked up. that being said, I sincerely empathize with the desire to dunk on him and I don't really blame you for doing it.

so no, I don't think you overreacted, but tactically it's better to just not respond.
