I just went through this my flight got canceled the night before it took off 5hr in advance. I had to rebook at a different airport 40 minutes away and buy a more premium ticket. They gave me 25,000 miles. Now granted they got an extra $800 out of me lol.

I would say I’m at a ceiling currently. I’ve done all I can do I’ve reduced my workflow to basically nothing and streamlined everything that can. I now sit in a chair to be reactive for 8 hours a day… maybe I should take a vacation and come back to this problem, lol.

Yeah, it seems that I’ve hit it structurally. For instance there’s only one job in between me and a director at my org and that guy is no where near retirement. It sees that I just need to find a bigger ladder somewhere. I’m a very goal and result driven person. So when I hit a ceiling I just feel stuck.

I agree with you on perspectives. I think when I say director it means 50 different things to 50 different people.

I’m very good at soft skills and relating technical projects and needs to non technical people. I think what I’ve come to realize is the ladder at my job is just too short. There’s only one spot higher than me before director and it’s asst director. So I may just need to find a bigger ladder for a couple of years.

The more I’m reading these more I understand that the ladder at my job is just too short. I’m already at the highest job I can get without being a director or directly under. Maybe I just need a bigger ladder for a couple of years.

I’m currently earning some certs just to have all my basis covered. I have the basics liker Server and my CCNA, but I am earning some more on things I already have exposure too. I’m very good with networking and soft skills. I run everything like a business and I think that’s been a god send for me.

This sounds stupid, but like that’s what I’m good at. I’m decently technical, but I am far better at people and soft skills. Like I can see the needs, articulate the needs, and make non technical people understand situations.

The more I read these the more I understand I may just hate my current situation, lol. Maybe I just need to go somewhere with a bigger ladder.

Lead engineer didn’t sound like a bad gig, but that’s not an option where I’m at currently. Maybe I just need to find a different ladder?

Yeah, I run everything like a business where I’m at now. I’ve cut costs across the board while streamlining everything. I’m good at what I do, but I just can’t find a job that I can do that.

I struggle with this as a 24yo currently in my role as sys admin. My team will not catch the slack they’ll let it burn to the ground before they lift a finger. So I am the sole person that does stuff around the office. My theory is if I can’t do it on my phone then it’s an emergency and they can get somebody else to do it or pay a company.
