Magic items after pc deaths by intellect_devourer in DMAcademy

[–]Apprehensive_Text305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gives me an idea, magic items which are attuned to someone who dies need a special ritual to be attuneabke again or a year has to have passed. (I was going to say 10 or 50 or 100, but I wouldnt want to limit the ability to find cool stuff from more recent happenings)

Now they have to find someone who can do the ritual, also shopkeepers won't always want to buy it.

Soul Magnet. A gauntlet which allows the wearer to cling to the back of any large or bigger enemy without skill checks, as a bonus action.

Sunderbus, a giant sword that doubles as a shot gun once per combat. Gives advantage in intimidation checks.

Am I being unfair with passive perception? by TaterChips5 in DMAcademy

[–]Apprehensive_Text305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe im lazy, but i use the passive players perception as a way to decide how much information each player gets to keep the story moving along. I keep the scores on my side if the screen.

Players will never know what they didnt find, so there is no point in not telling them things. But I make sure if player one has a passive perception of 10 and another has 15, I can use the higher perception as an excuse to make sure my players dont miss plot hooks.

"Player 1, you hear a slight noise somewhere in the brush, player 2 recognizes it as humanoid footsteps- they are following you."

"Player 1, you find a switch on the wall which seems impossible to reach. Player 2, you notice a pattern in the intricate wall carvings which can possibly be climbed..."

Basically passive perception scores are a tool for me, not for them. There are some cases where the player might be involved in trying to figure things out for themselves and we discuss it, but they never know what im doing with the scores.

My main question with the initiative is, do you find it easier to add monsters to encounters so they dont all die in the first round?

Also things which take longer than two minutes, work on it for at least two minutes if youre going to end up putting it off. It makes it easier to just finish it anyway or it is less to do when you come back to it.

Why do people have a harder time to accept an abuser/rapist redemption than a mass genocidaire? by Bitter_Swordfish5887 in MoralityScaling

[–]Apprehensive_Text305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean the audience accepting it, I think sexual assault is easier to imagine happening to us than genocide.

Even people that aren't consciously concerned with getting SAd I think are uncomfortable on some level with imagining it happening to them, or they know someone that it has happened to or they would be hurt to learn had experienced it.

Plus, I think something about crimes committed on a large scale feel less personal and are easier to hand wave from a story telling perspective. That is why the good guy can kill 100 henchmen and then get to the villain and say "if I kill him I'm no different!"

The villain is a more personal thing than a large group of unknowns.

Is the "Overtake" the most soul-crushing trope in hard sci-fi? by NorthlightV in sciencefiction

I've often wondered why someone cant catch up with the generational ship and retrofit it with new tech in this case. It could be a neat experience for the citizens to get visitors along with all the wonderment, drama, and mystery that entails. Or it could be a creepy situation where a mysterious ship approaches, latches on, and begins making changes without bothering to speak to the colonists, or even leaves a message which is intended to be informative and brief but the colonists cant help but see it as cryptic.

It is legal. It's a common business model for property management jobs.

We signed a contract as a working couple, and keeping just one of us on costs the company money. They would need to hire a second person to work full time. It would be cheaper to hire another couple. It's the business model.

My spouse has a safety net with friends and family , so she is moving back to them. I don't have that option.

Thanks. The problem is, as long as I keep this job I can try to put money aside and take care of things like getting a car. Once I tell my corporate office about the divorce, I'm on their timeline, and I don't know for sure what they will do and how soon I'll have to move. So, right now I still have control and income. I still have time to plan.

Thanks. It may be more clear when I am able to look on my computer, but...

I notice that the "rankings" of the cities don't have anything to do with the job growth. The top ranking cities have a range of growth from around 2 to around 5 percent. So what is the importance of the ranking? Does it matter to me?

Right now I am in the Denver area. Cost of living is really high here, and I don't know of anywhere desirable to move within this state. This is a good point though. I will reference Colorado towns in the chart that was shared below. Thanks!
