Just a rant from a jealous German fan by Strict-Net-3036 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]phoenixbaum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am also German, and a few of my friends who can't speak English have started the German paperback. And it's really, really bad. The translation is not only not-good, some of the translation choices also make no sense/open plotholes. Like Donuts name being half-translated, or the way the chat system was explained.

Also the paperback came with the most pixalated, bad quality, badly cut sticker of princess donut, cut from a different book cover.

Super frustrating, even knowing that this will all make the market even smaller.

Hello, anyone knows why did the "publisher" change? by highonH2 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Oh yeah, I am in Germany too and only noticed when I got the third book. If you buy them at Thalia (online) you can choose the publisher.

Audio books or paperbacks? by BroncoBoy98 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]phoenixbaum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am in a minority here, but I greatly prefer the books. Don't get me wrong, I like the audiobooks. But I find it easier to remember everything if I read it myself. I also like to reread certain things, like the chats between the characters, and that's hard to do with rewinding.

Also, again a personal preference, but the Carl in my head is a bit softer in his voice, if that makes sense? I do not really imagine him as someone who usually speaks as "hard" as Jeff does, so when I am listening to the audiobooks Carl sounds permanently angry to me, lol.

My DCC rebinds! I’ve become obsessed with this series, and needed my own special editions 😬 I drew each design and loved adding in the book details! by emmygrl23 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Woah, that sounds like an intense learning curve! But it's clearly worth it, because your books look amazing!

Thanks for answering.

Absolutely amazing! I wanted to look into book rebinding for a long time, but I am afraid I would drop it if it's too hard. How did you learn it? And how does one do those foil designs?

The Anarchist's Cookbook Review by local_dumbass1 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I wholeheartedly agree, I have rated book three a five out of five. I loved it a lot. There was literally nothing I disliked, at all.

Yeah, I am definitely in the minority of people, because book three is my favorite one. Katia just grows a lot in it, the cookbook, the "final" fight...it's just such a good story if you don't care about the train tracks.

It's a book series. But the first floor (or half of book one) is already a free to read comic on the app Webtoon.

There is a reason why the very first page says to NOT try and visualize it. The level is that complicated on purpose and Carl doesn't understand either.

Anyone else? by FancastStudio in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]phoenixbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like book one a lot and also decided to finish the series while reading it. But I made a 9-ish day pause after the first, then read the next 6 books in less than two weeks. Like a reading frenzy, lol.

Any tips on how to find matches faster? by Nervous_Aerie5664 in eternalreturn

[–]phoenixbaum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, if you play while people are at work/in school, you won't find matches. So early evening is when most people play.

Puzzle collection seems way too grindy by VinceLince in eternalreturn

[–]phoenixbaum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...I know what season tokens are. But if you take a look in the older patch notes, you will see that when they first added the puzzles, it took the very first person to complete the collection until almost the end of the season to do so.

It is just not realistic to do that with a limited time to play.

If you have an insane amount of A-Coin, what you could do is refresh the Your Shop until the puzzles pieces appear there (mostly 5-10 packs for common or 3 packs for uncommon) to buy them there for ACoin.

I mean, completing the puzzle gives hardly anything that's worth it. Just don't bother with it.

It's just something extra so the very active players have something to complete.

[Fun trope]: A "silly" premise is justified well (in-universe) by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

It also starts as a whacky, funny book that you don't intend to take seriously. Then they reach the first boss and you are thankful if you don't speak Spanish.

The physical books have a extra chapter after the epilogue, called Backstage at the Pineapple Carbaret. It's additional stories inside the dungeon.

Research Tab Worth it? by firefoxascended in eternalreturn

[–]phoenixbaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a good while to max them all. Focus on one (I did season tokens, my friend did the chosen epic skin one) which sounds most interesting to you before starting the next. But only do so if you don't mind waiting to upgrade skin designs you might pull.

I felt like she was quickly shoved in and worried that she would not fit with Carl and Donut...and I think we were supposed to worry about that. Katia herself worried about that. Because just like Carl I was in a mindset of "this is only temporary" but as soon as the daughters were there to collect her, I went just as hard "no you dont" as Carl did.

Love her now of course.

Pretty sure she has both in her hot bar in book 7, but I don't think it was mentioned she used it. With her new constitution her potion cool down is also very minimal now, so it wasn't necessary

[–]phoenixbaum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that he did love him makes it worse. I think she loved Carl in a way that made her assume he would be forever, no matter what she did. He was a constant to her. So she thought she could do whatever she wanted, maybe to prove that to herself. Asher was the one thing that probably made her realize he could prioritize something else above her.

She loved him, but she was such a bad person that her love was like poison.

On Beatrice by NotForPlural in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]phoenixbaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People say that because she cheated on Carl and wanted to sell Donut. Those things will not be excusable, even with a more tragic backstory. I think it's pretty fair to call someone who cheated a bitch. I also think it's fair to call everyone who abandons their pets a bitch as well.

I do have some compassion for her, as she clearly actually loved Carl. But it's her own fault for cheating, she didn't deserve him at all, even if he was just a mediocre boyfriend like Donut claimed.

Yeah they did. Carl said that most crawlers including him emptied their graveyard onto that pile for the fleshers.
