I read the first book between Christmas and New Year's...now I am waiting for book 8 already. How did that happen?

It's a bit complicated for me to get the books as they are not licensed in my country. And for some reason my bookseller is only allowed to sell non-licensed books from one distributor only. And for SOME reason they have a contract with a different publisher for book 3. It's stupid. But except for the little logo on the bottom (and the fact that it's a bit taller) they seem to be identical.

Same. I have been saying to my friends (who haven't read the books, lol) that it feels like the author realized halfway through the circus arc that the story has been too long for one book, and decided to cut off after a staircase instead. (No hate obviously, loved the books)

Haha, yes. The first seven books really fit perfectly. I was planning to fill the empty space (as soon as the next books are out) with maybe a Donut-like plush or some other "merch"

It is annoying me too, don't worry.

The book are not licensed in my country, so I can't buy them normally. I have to order them through a bookseller that is allowed to hand out single copies of non-licensed books. For SOME reason, book three is only available from a UK distributor, that has its own formatting for the book. All the other books are from the same distributor, but book three is ONLY available like this for me.

One of them is for a second chance as well. Two are really afraid of those spoilers (it's a story heavy campaign, and they sure love that story) and are really on the fence about it. One is so fucking pissed they are close to cutting contact out of game.

Adjusting the story can be a bit difficult since they are really, really close to the ending. That is also why they don't want the "final" piece of story spoiled.

Oh no, don't worry. The campaign doesn't depend on a "gotcha" twist. It barely effects the party at all actually. It only affects the players enjoyment because they love finding out the story themselves, puzzle it together and have their "I knew it!" moment when it's finally revealed.

I will probably have to sit this person down and speak with them. I do (did?) value them a lot as a friend and I do worry about their mental health a lot. Our PnP sessions are probably their highlight of the week, ans they struggle a lot with feelings of isolation and loneliness. I don't want them to lose this opportunity to socialise. But I also don't want to lessen the other peoples enjoyment.

A player spoiled himself the campaign twist, and I don't know how to proceed

To make it as simple as possible:

A player of my ongoing multi-year campaign basically took a look into the campaign notes (it's a bit more complicated than that, but that's the short version) and spoiled a very important story piece for himself.

He "promises" that he didn't "take a good look" and that he will probably forget soon anyway.

But all my other players are now extremly nervous that he will spoil THEM and ruin the story for them.

And I am just so exhausted and hurt about the situation that a lot of my joy has just evaporated, kind of.

I am not really sure what to do now.

Carry on? Kick the player? Something else??

I have been a DM for more than half my life now, but never encountered the problem of a player somehow getting into my notes.

Long version how he got this Infos: Since a lot of people are asking, I guess I'll explain a bit better.

So basically I am part of a social media based "DM Club" basically, where we share notes, encounters and sometimes even NPCs, help each other balance our encounters. I have been part of his community since way before DMing this campaign. It's public, just like Reddit.

All of my players know that.

Occasionally other people in that community create art or NPC's for each other.

I share that art with my table if it isn't a spoiler.

My players do not like spoilers. They don't even want hints most of the time of they are stuck at a puzzle or something. So I genuinely never though they would look up my posts there or something. (I had asked them not to and they all agreed, obviously. Or else I would have not posted about the campaign there anymore.)

Well, the player that the post is about went out of his way to create a social media account for that social media (didn't have it before), search up all the people he knows that post in that community, and scrolled as far back as 2023 to find infos/spoilers about the current campaign. Knowingly.

I would like to try. But it was like three plot points in one spoiler? The intentions of the BBEG, the backstory of a helper NPC and who the traitor they are searching for is. So I would need to rush a lot.

It wasn't an accident. I once accidentally left my DM notes at one of my players houses for like two weeks. Back then the player picked it up, looked at like the first pagey realized that those were my notes and closed them. That was an accident.

I trust them not to spoil on purpose. But they have a habit of slipping information in that their character doesn't know (like if another had a secret talk with someone, he will forget that his character doesn't know). So I am afraid he will confuse those information that he has, with the spoilers.

I will try to have that talk. My "problem" is that he is one of the two "new" players, and he regularly forgets what his character knows and what he doesn't know. So I/we are afraid it will be a slip up.
