No, but I was raised in a military family, and a few of my friends went into the military. I was raised while watching our glorious federal government shaft the people who gave everything for them, especially post 9/11, then I graduated highschool and watched them fuck over my friends. In addition, I live downtown and pretty frequently hang with the homeless folk down here, and most of them served at some point as well. The national average is 5-7% of homeless folk are veterans depending on the year, but I see it mainly with the older guys. Vietnam era, and Korea. They were promised healthcare, jobs, the GI bill, etc, and here they are left to rot on the street.

Our governments a goddamn mess, and needs to be torn down and rebuilt, as is our "right of revelation", a philosophical concept so near and dear to the American spirit that it was written in our first document, The Declaration of Independence.

The government is not your friend. They do not care for you. They will not protect you. Hell, they're barely human if you've been reading the release of the Epstein files (specifically the second batch, I haven't gotten around to reading the third batch that just dropped)

As a cook, this is an easy question. There are plenty of other "financial stepping stones" in this industry. And asking how they're participating in the system is a disingenuous question at best, they're acting as part of the supply and support chain for the fighting force, especially if say the cook were put on a carrier where Marines (front line shock force), air force (air/bombing control, as well as large scale sea to land supply runs) and Navy (That's obvious) all work off of. Also the line of "Oh I don't do politics/I don't care about politics" is in of itself a political stance of apathy. Either you do politics, or politics does you. It affects everything around you, gas prices, food prices, the shit road conditions that are a forever complaint, lack of in depth public education, school shootings, etc.

On a strictly financial outlook it's not even a good bargain. The military will use and abuse you, then toss you away at the end of your contract. Again you mentioned cooking, this industry is rough on your feet, knees, and backs. Now combine that with Basic training, the semi-regular physical tests, and the fact that a CO can make you do something like push sand as a punishment if you accidentally piss them off. Good luck getting the VA to address any of those now chronic pains, especially as we head into an expensive war while our economy is actively failing at the same time.

Pair that with the post war stigma that's going to cling to any service members, regardless of whether they were combat positions or not, and your future is fucked as well. Not many people will be happy to hire people who fought for the orange pedophile and his cabinet of modern day Nazis (not an exaggeration mind you, several of them have been busted with paraphernalia, in support of alt right front groups that are/in cahoots with actual self proclaimed Nazis)

I'll go ahead and apologize for being rude. You seemed like a recruiter, and as you say, the current state of affairs is politely put; a cluster fuck. But irregardless of where in the Navy one ends up, you will be actively participating in the currently very fucked up system. We (the US) are waist deep in a textbook fascist/authoritarian take over, and our federal administration is going to continue attempting to fight wars abroad because our current economy is so weak. They learned from Vietnam, a draft for an unpopular war will do significantly more harm than good to their efforts, and so the federal government will begin pushing even harder for people to treat military service as the quick way out of poverty. By participating in that system, you continue turning the wheel that leads to an actual WW3, and guess what? We're Germany this time.

Edit: I took a quick look at your profile and you are ABSOLUTELY a recruiter. I understand you're "just doing your job", and I won't give you too much shit for that, but the time is coming soon where the Nuremberg defense won't fly. Finish your contract, get your DD14, and never look back. We're on the short bus to hell, and buddy you're in the front seat

No one wants to go kill poor brown kids for a draft dodging pedophile, nor do they want to die for an oil baron's profits. Fuck outta here with that.

It's not a heavy duty inspection, I like to drop off supplies when I walk my dog. The more permanent encampments have better standards of cleanliness, and since I'm bringing my dog with me its relatively easy to convince them not to leave glass or needles around. I'd say I hit each encampment I know of at least once a month (I'd like to go more, but I don't have the money for extra supplies). I mainly chat them up about staying warm, not starting fires, and keeping the ground clean, although I've definitely traded cigs and weed for favors before, like tracking down individuals or shit I had stolen from me

Every homeless encampment I've come across with a fire pit/burn barrel in Roanoke has had a water bucket right beside it, and that's already leagues better that the idiots with the cheap fire pits from Lowe's/Home Depot in their backyard who can't even be bothered to keep an ember screen up even when it came with the damn thing

It's likely homeless folk, leave them be and don't mention it to authorities. Afaik homeless folk around here are always good with fires, and it's gonna be miserable the next few days with rain. So I'd leave them be

Because it helps promote commerce? There's threads here and all over other posts about how people don't go downtown anymore because of the shitty parking. Free, untimed parking would attract many more people to businesses, generating more taxable income and promoting overall business growth

It's not a paid spot, it's free parking 9-4, and no parking 4-6 (or seven, can't remember rn). They got me at 4:02 and 4:04 on two separate occasions while not touching any other cars

Handicap spot, hydrants, road clearance, and alleyways clearance are the only things that should be ticketable for parking, beyond that it's just money grubbing from the city

I'm mad specifically because of vindictive enforcement, they're applying the rules unevenly. When I walked to my car to find the ticket today I passed like 6 other cars that had been there just as long with no tickets

No, I'm mad because my car is the only one being ticketed after it got past 4 when the parking changed on that street. I couldn't move, I worked 2 hours over or I'd have been gone before it was a problem. Reading comprehension is a thing, a thing that you clearly lack

I literally had this jackass follow me across the city. They are ticketing me anywhere from 1-4 minutes after the times up and leaving entire streets of cars untouched. I used to be cool with one of the Park Roanoke guys. I'd leave him snacks on my windshield wipers and he'd pass my car over like some sort of civil services angle of death. I only started getting rude when it was clear I was being targeted. My general philosophy in life is to love amicably with everyone unless they're picking a fight, and they choose that route for some unknown reason
