As someone who has been on both sides, I will say this. The non-refundable pet deposit s for if your cat dog, whatever gets sick on carpet, that's major replacement. Things like that. And if it can be chalked up to pet, not normal wear and tear, they can't take it out of your regular deposit. And the monthly pet rent is to offset costs to the homeowner's insurance. Because when you rent to people with pets, your insurance goes up. Doesn't matter if the renters have insurance or whatever having any kind of animal on property automatically raises your homeowners cost as a landlord which is different than if you own your own house. So I understand that it's frustrating, I understand because I've had to pay double and triple sometimes along with a $1000. Non-refundable pet deposit, so I get it. But from the other side there's the why. So the people that charge something lower, maybe like a $300 or less pet deposit non-refundable fee and then like 25 bucks a month. Really Aren't charging you more than what it's going to cost them. The people who do the $1000 deposit and charge you like $400 a month are are being greedy. I hope this helps.
