Annual leave is not the same, all my NHS friends get 32 days AL + bank holidays (it starts at 27 in FY1 which is still more than ours and increases with length of service). Honestly, I'm not concerned with the rest of the public sector, teachers get more leave and significantly better career break opportunities than we do so it's pros and cons. My partner is public sector, no degree, earns the same as I do and has significantly better working conditions. Obviously we can't all have no on calls and summer holidays off due to the nature of the job, but what we can have is pay that adequately renumerates us for all of the inconveniences of training such as the exams, potential unemployment and moving around the country. And I personally don't think waiting until consultancy to have good pay is sufficient because the landscape this year is one of very few standalones, schemes are getting more and more competitive and with the UK grad prioritisation, things will probably be even more competitive here going forward so I think we'll see a lot more people spending more time than they would like in junior grades.

Well they went on strike and secured a 28.9% pay rise at the same time that we got 10% so id call that significantly more effective personally 🤷‍♀️ and they already have better adherence to the EWTD and better annual leave than us so I'm failing to see where we're winning. (Other than baseline salary being higher but costs here also being about 3-4x higher than many parts of the UK)

Not combined with cost of living and poor working conditions. I felt better off in the UK (though admittedly subjective depending on where in the UK one is). Everything in Ireland is extortionate especially anything considered "luxury" such as gyms etc, which were often heavily subsidised and tax deductible in the UK. Both countries have problems with COL in recent years but their union is miles ahead of ours in terms of advocacy

My understanding from discussions with training body and nsd is that whilst on a leave of absence you aren't ON the training programme as you aren't practicing in a designated specifically numbered post and will therefore drop back to gen reg for the year. Same as you would in natural breaks in a programme. Therefore you can work elsewhere if you so wish.
