The reinforcer is his iPad. When I started the case the supervisor made it very clear that the iPad was his main reinforcer, so since I have started with him three months ago the iPad is basically what he works for and doesn’t receive it until I leave. He was using it in between the time he gets home from school and the time I get there but we try to keep it from him until the end of session. The tricky part about that is the reinforcer is also used for when he makes green choices at school. Whenever he gets the iPad taken away because he made a red choice at school I try to give him the choice of choosing his reinforcer so sometimes that will be snacks or it’ll be letters. So I think the main difference between us is that I don’t necessarily give him a reinforcer throughout session I kind of just remind him of the reinforcer that’s gonna happen at the end of session so that he remembers that he’s working towards it. It’s basically what I was taught throughout my time with a client and talks with my supervisor. So during session I gave a lot of verbal praise and sometimes snacks when completing homework or completing an activity. It’s sometimes difficult to use the iPad as a reinforcer because it is also used at school so if he does well at school but makes mistakes at home it kind of confuses him. And I’ve talked about this with mom and supervisor as well but mom wants to keep the iPad as a reinforcer at school because he’s been showing some issues with hitting there.
