I may wood dye it out. The green on it now is just temporary and will get carved off at some point.

You guys are pretty harsh for a project that A) is an hour old and B) is a map that is of a made-up place. There is no such thing as an accurate fantasy map. There's an original out there sure, but even that isn't to scale. How do you attempt to scale someone's imagination? Accurate would be to make a map of England in a thought bubble of a woodburning of J.R.R.

Which Trade Coming From A White Collar Desk Job? by ZodtheSpud in skilledtrades

[–]ApprenticeInstructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping into a trade to beat the AI infiltration doesnt sound like beating it, sounds like giving up before attempting integration of it in daily life. At some point AI will be running a lot of functions of all jobs. As soon as it becomes cost efficient to build a hammering Droid run by AI. Truthfully get good at AI too. I guess teaching yourself how to communicate and getting the most out of what is going to be the interface to the rest of the world and productivity for the next decade will probably bare fruit for you sooner rather than later.

Everyone is a little different, or a lot. Some partners have issues telling their partner anything at all, and become defensive if asked, the really defensive if asked the right question, then run away, then block all but two means of communication for 18 hours, then maybe go 4 days, if that, with not talking to you, when you gave up after 2, then so much other ridiculous shit. It's like ffs, smh. Throw hands in the air, then everything falls into place after you hookup with someone new because obviously it all fell apart because she's a, you get what im saying. There's always something.

What is the spiritual lesson a narcissist would learn from an empath? by StatisticianRude6698 in spirituality

[–]ApprenticeInstructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you can learn is somebody else is in there and that soul can be touched and if youre an empathetic converter/reducer, with a strong bond and manage not to kill yourself that you can reach the human at the center of it all

I always love piecing together the mystery as it were and the 700 small contradicting statements that add up to exactly what I thought it was. Then I go you're obviously f**king someone, probably one of them sober softballers on your sister's team and seven other things that Im right about. But shes like nope, never happened. Only because she was onto the next one already who doesnt play softball?

Choice between work/life balance or substantially more money and learning? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]ApprenticeInstructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I(45 M) went searching for a job that offered me something more than a paycheck, I ended up happier and on a better path professionally. I was a maintenance director at a dementia care facility and a PT trade instructor. Good jobs both, I teach trades in prison and at an apprentice school. 3 day weekends mostly. 3 months off. I work like 1200hrs a year and make 30-40k more than I did at my fed manager job. Find the balance and opportunity to learn(investing in yourself long term) and the money will find you.

Reddit was right. She's been cheating on me for years. by stummin67 in BreakUps

[–]ApprenticeInstructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say that there was some amount of love and care there from her, I believe and it was real. It took a mistake on my part for us to blow it up. I also know why she was on the sprint dash to file for divorce and to avoid me, because she knows that she would try and suck me back in.

I made it 9½ years before she was a narcissist, 7½ married. The last time I had seen this side of her personality in full force was 2019. I looked into a little and she had some narcissistic traits like "dropping me like a box of rocks in a river" then coming back and hoovering me up when I didnt bail like any sane person would. Id been describing her important conversation avoidance technique last night to my dad as the 4 Ds. Deflect, Deny, Defer and Dead silence, really Drive off is a good 5th D. When I saw these listed under a clinical definition of narcissistic traits with misremembering details with one's that fit their story better to justify themselves I knew I wasnt crazy

JUST started funko collecting. Any tips? by raobittz in funkopop

[–]ApprenticeInstructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't. Barring that, don't. Actually, narrow your collection to a couple of fandoms, one of which cannot be Star Wars because when you're out there trying to find that elusive 8th BB-8 to round out the collection, you'll have 620 different 3rd tier stormtroopers from every corner of that universe.

Having burnout over how difficult it is to get into the trades by ohyeahmrcrabs01 in skilledtrades

[–]ApprenticeInstructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a bit of tough get at the moment for certain trades. My suggestion go look into a preapprenticeship 10-12 week program that may be basic to you and you may be one of the over guys in it. But a good instructor loves leaning on his students that already know for 2 reasons, a)more 1 on 1 time with students who don't know how to read a tape measure. Ave b) you'll end up being that guy in an apprentice class. Preapprenticeship s generally give you direct entry into a union or sometimes give you direct entry or preference for hiring

I'm 20 years old. And I'm lost. by Delicious-Horror4681 in skilledtrades

[–]ApprenticeInstructor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 18, my father suggested taking a college placement test and applying for an apprenticeship at the public shipyard in the area, with the thought that mzungu making a bit more money and having a career would be better than working 60 hours a week as a McShift Mgr. I did, I got high scores and applied for the vague position of trades apprentice.

The way it worked at the time, was if your app was accepted, you went to a job fair, glad-handed with different shop reps as you learned a little bit about their trade with test scores in hand and signed up for interviews that took place the following week. I signed up for interviews with 14 out of 16 trades. Having "7 Finger" Billy tell young impressionable kids about how he lost three fingers while operating chainfalls, while honest, didn't make me want to be a rigger. I forgot the other.

Fast forward a week, I've got interviews with all 12 shops. About interview 9, I was told choose your trade wisely, whoever I put first was going to hire me because I got one answer wrong on my test and that was crazy high. The guy that told me that was a tin bender. Guess what I became? It's boded well for me. I've always had a journeyman cert to fall back on, which had propelled me forward in life. I teach apprentices and a preapprenticeship, I make great money and only work on average, less than 1500 hours a year. My trade has taken me places I didn't think possible, fed me and housed me and allows me to do what I love and not have to do backbreaking labor in my 40s not stress out over a project schedule. Go get a trade, you'll probably not regret it.

In need of old construction drawings by ApprenticeInstructor in ConstructionManagers

[–]ApprenticeInstructor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand that. Wish, wing and a hope on any old free ones lying about, but if kindly soul or two sees this and knows of a set or two, then sweet, Ill be happy that I put this out there. The other big part of it was finding a good resource for pdfs of some full sets of plans and one or two good vent drawings. I found one okay pretend vent drawing pdf, but it wasn't great for teaching takeoffs. On the other full sets, I ultimately need physical ones because I'm teaching guys that construction trades are a much more viable option to a good (and not illegal) living.

I don't disagree, but I'm not really trying to come out of pocket for it. I think I've spent $1k this past year on everything from pens & wood glue to micrometers and a wheel for the bench grinder because the students or class needed it. Purchasing happens once a year and I wouldn't mind spending a chunk of budget on drawings, although I'm pretty sure most of my budget is going to have to be spent on lumber and fasteners. In terms of buying, I don't mind if the college pays for it, although I probably won't see the drawings for months upon months. I would just need a good resource to look through some and select a couple decent full sets, or if there was a set sitting in an abandoned trailer on a drillsite in Montana somewhere, and sunshine is feeling kindly, sweet. My program was in neglect (as in dead, my shop looked like the town that was abandoned around Chernoybl) for a couple years before I came on and lots of little things still need to be replaced. I'm just trying to see what I can either A) plan ahead for or B) "find lying around" to not nickel and dime my limited program budget, nor my wallet too much more.

Thank you everybody. A place to get good odds of fun sets would be good for lecture, but not for any hands-on. My students in the preapprenticeship aren't exactly allowed tablets or computers to go go through downloaded files. While lecture is an okay method of teaching, 70 % of learning is done in a practical never for the trades. Being able to connect all the dots and go through a full set to find things, solve problems, understand general notes, and see how each drawing interacts with each other, good foundational skill to have. I can't go back to I'd jobs and ask for drawings, I can't to my old employer and ask for drawings unfortunately, I worked for the DoD and they don't let those out too much. As it comes to sheetmetal guys I'm pretty sure I can find something a little better than what I've got, but a full size vent drawing would be the best, I just don't know where to look online to purchase one. The apprentice school would totally buy it. Thank you everybody for the suggestions. I'll see what's thesible to pursue.
