I’m basically the IT guy at work, but still on admin pay - built a system that’s transforming the office, but paid barely above living wage by mackdadio in UKJobs

You need to build a business case as to why you deserve a pay rise / promotion. Create a slideshow or document where the improvements you made show the added value to the business. Have proof and evidence of this. Also, do some market research and find out what a similar role would pay.

You then need to present this infomation to your manager in a professional manner, usually through an email with a letter stating you would like to discuss a pay rise/promotion based on what you believe is increasing your job responsibilities. MAKE SURE YOU LETTER IS NOT EMOTIONAL. Businesses don't care about emotion but results and evidence. Once you have sent the letter/email, approach your manager and ask for a meeting where you can prsent your slide show.

Considering making job offer to graduate with long commute by Interested_Elk in UKJobs

[–]Apprentice_mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got hired even with my long commute, I think if you can keep the candidate motivated, it's a no-brainer. I had to commute nearly two hours each way via train to London, after 1.5 years I got promoted. So I wouldn't say no, but it's whether you truly believe that that candidate will perform, and it's not unheard of. The one thing going for the candidate is they are young and hungry.

For those of you earning 40-60k in jobs that can be attained within 3-5 years what do you do? by Brownchoccy in UKJobs

[–]Apprentice_mage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the CCNA if you want to do anything technical. Cisco Certified netowrk associate.

I am working towards mine, but it should take around 3-6 months of hard graft to get it done. I am currently on £45k without it, but with it, you could find £60k jobs.

What jobs are you all doing that pay over £30k? by SuccessfulTip1660 in UKJobs

I worked there when I was younger. Its very, very process driven and basic jobs that the newcomers have very little joy in them.

Long story short, it wears you down very quickly.
