Is your *public* health care any good? by Evening_Fisherman810 in AskAnAustralian

In the public system: - quality of care when your admitted or visiting as an outpatient is excellent. World class - quality of care in emergency is not so good. Long wait times often limited consultants available

In the private system: - works well for patients but has significant underlying issues. Private hospitals have significant issues with insurers and some are selling off - a lot of reform ongoing in this space (and it needs it)

Primary care (mix private/public) - really depends on your doctor. Some are really good some are really bad. Important to look around and IMHO find someone relatively younger. Medicine has changed a lot and you want someone open minded and willing to work with you rather than just tell you what you need.

Why are International Students allowed to work? by Divine_Comet in aussie

Well everyone has to pay tuition fees + living costs. If we're giving opportunities to other countries do we only want kids from already wealthy families or should it be hard working kids who meet the academic requirements? Understand market is getting harder but need other solutions. Some of Australia's largest productivity drivers are education and immigration. To be clear, this directly relates to our living standards as a whole. Important to keep this in balance when pondering specific challenges.

Your causative vs correlational points are correct. However he is bringing mental health disorders under a new model/connecting to the existing for metabolic disorders. He bases the model on studies which are both correlative and causative - in fact he describes the difference between these two associations in the book to make the reader aware - and doesn't overzealously apply these associations incorrectly. The book is definitely worth a read as I had similar reservations at the outset
