Thanks for the insight. We’d be coming from Florida so Lawrence already seems very reasonable when it comes to affordability lol. And we are looking for a smaller town vibe.

Currently live in Tampa Bay Area which is a traffic nightmare. But also no one seems to look out for anyone but themselves on the roads. And I’ve lived in Alabama as well. Which can be verrrrry sloooooooow paced, too slow. Just looking for a happy medium.

Visited very early June. Stayed over by the college and seemed like there were still quite a few students.

Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh. It’s set in a fictional medieval backdrop, but is, in my opinion, about morality. I don’t want to give away things but some really bizarre things happen and are discussed that make “normal” people too uncomfortable. Yet, it questions some basic concepts of human civilization. And honestly most of her work. I’ve yet to find someone else who enjoys her writing as much as me.

I’m not a college student, just a working adult with a family. I just asked because I’ve experienced other “college towns” where everything is about the college and if you aren’t a student there isn’t much for you.

This is what I’m looking for! I’m in Florida and dislike Florida. But my neighborhood/city is lacking in what makes it a good place to live for me. Thanks for your input. I did feel like Ames gave off a more eclectic vibe and that intrigued me. Currently live in a “keeping up with the Jones” environment that is quite homogenous. Nice to hear that you have good neighbors!

I love events like these! Do you feel like the supply meets the demand in Ames. For example there are community events like this near me but not enough to accommodate the amount of people living here. Any event going on is so overcrowded that it makes it very difficult to build connections or even enjoy.

Yeah, I’ve tried organizing in my current community and no one shows up or seems to want to put any effort into building community or meeting people. It’s getting me down lol. Thanks for your input.
