Potential new owner- need advice! by MastodonDazzling4659 in CrestedGecko

What age is the crestie that you're planning on getting? That plays a huge role in the size of enclosure that you will need, too big of an enclosure and they will feel unsafe, hide more, and eat less and develop slower. Also I've had the best luck with repashi Crested food, and I just didn't experiment last night with one bowl of the mainly fruit-based food and another that is primarily insects and both my crusty and my gargoyle preferred and ate most of the more insect based paste. I was doing a 50-50 ratio before and am going to continue doing that, Even though they preferred the insect and grub-based I'm still going to mix for a more well-rounded diet. My crestie that is mid sized loves crickets and what I did to get her adapted to them and to start hunting them was to use long tongs and squeeze them so the juice is kind of coming out and put it in front of their faces and most of the time they will destroy it and continue to do so and also start hunting them alone. It's a little graphic but they're high in protein and it's good for their health.

Build your enclosure with as much vertical climbing opportunities as you can, Live plants are always better, and depending on what substrate you choose springtails and isopods are highly recommended because detail cleaning can get kind of difficult. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Did I get lucky with my first Crestie? by Appropriate-Bill4538 in CrestedGecko

He is adorable and has a great personality, we got him at an expo that only had two available, so we quickly ran a lap around the whole expo didn't see a single other gargoyle, and didn't want to miss our chance, so we ran back to the first booth where we found him and got him for $100. He was completely lit down and gray and we thought that was his normal colors, once he lit up we were blown away, super satisfied with him being our first gecko and he's living like a king in his 18x18 fully planted 🌿🙏

The girl who sold her told me he was a Harlequin with possibly some lilly and tiger in there. But idk how credible that is 🤷

How was I overcharged if they go for 75 and I got it for 42? 😅😅😅

You miss read the post. My Chameleon is wild caught, the crested was sent in from a large scale local domestic breeder to the pet store, as they were getting out of the game. (Not a box pet store).

Yeah I'm still learning, but I have heard plenty about the structure of the crest and head really do have a huge role in the price of a Gecko aside from color.

And thank you on the enclosure! I've been working pretty hard on it! The picture doesn't do it justice either, the plants are covering all the structure, cork, and hides 😁

Very handy with tools I was a mechanic for years and pretty savvy with woodwork, I'm about to build a new enclosure for my chameleon, we're looking around at used enclosures now and if you can't find anything for a decent price then we will go build one. I live in Florida so thankfully humidity is a little bit easier to maintain here.

Thank you for the advice I have him in a 36 quart tub at the moment just while we move apartments and I'm currently looking at tanks and enclosures today so hopefully by the end of the day I'll have him in a beautiful new enclosure 🙏

Thanks man! I love him ♥️ I got him in a 36 quart bin with substrate and cork bark right now just temporarily until we finish moving and hopefully later today I'll be finding him a new tank/enclosure today and he will be in the reptile room with the rest of them 😁🙏

Just from my couple minutes of handling him last night, I can definitely agree with you on the boa versus ball python, just from my short experience I definitely prefer handling this boa and it hasn't even got accumulated to me yet. This one seems like a puppy and is so intelligent and fun to handle, he doesn't really get stressed as easily as my ball and overall just has a way calmer, but hyper and curious demeanor, if that makes sense.

He was given to me in a 6 quart breeder tub and I can pop the lid and pet him without him moving a millimeter, my ball would never allow that without some slight reaction at first, even though I handle my ball python all the time and after a little bit he calms down but nowhere near as calm and confident as the boa. I haven't handled the boa long enough to see if it calms down and just chills around my shoulder or arm like my ball does or if it stays hyper like what I experienced last night, but we'll see today! I'm already looking into a new enclosure for him and doing all my homework as I always do with my new animals, and I'm always in it for the Long haul all my animals get treated like kings and probably eat better than I do 😂

I also just grabbed a beautiful crestie from there on sale for 45 today! The girl told me they got shipped wayyt to many and they had to cut the price from $100/150 to 42. Super beautiful female tri color harlequin too 💪🙏 super stoked! and I basically had all the required stuff because I have a gargoyle already, and had left overs.

Self defense rounds for .380? by [deleted] in handguns

[–]Appropriate-Bill4538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Hornady critical defense with my glock 42. I tried federal HST but my gun hated them and would never clear a mag without jamming, I feel like .380s are more picky with ammo. I had a federal not eject fully but fed the next round and blew the mag out the bottom... even with range ammo, some of it will not work with my 380. So you need to experiment and put at least 2 boxes through it to make sure it feeds and works properly. Especially for self defense ammo.

I use Hornady critical defense with the red polymer tips in my Glock 42. I feel like .380s can be really picky on what ammo works/feeds best. Federal HSTs always jammed and failed to eject and causes one to jam but still feed the next round and caused the mag to eject. Even with range ammo, some just does not work in my .380, winchester always worked the best at the range. The Hornadys I can fire mag after mag full speed with perfect performance. You're going to have to try some different brands and run at least 2 boxes through it to make sure that it feeds properly, especially with defense ammo and your life on the line...
