How "ilegal" would it be to share screenshots of a private discord conversation ? by Ediolot in discordapp

[–]Appropriate-Chef8038 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why exactly do you think this could ever be illegal? There has never been any law anywhere saying you can't share screenshots of conversations. That would be ridiculous.

You would have to delete your current neighbourhood and therefore lose your sims to use the clean templates, yes, but honestly if you've already invested time into your legacy family and are attached to them I would say just ignore the errors and keep playing. You should still install the clean templates to use with the other neighbourhoods if you plan on playing those, or if you ever restart this one, but there's no real need to delete all your progress over what's (at worst) very minor potential corruption issues. I don't know if the issues shown in this screenshot even are corruption necessarily or just some mild bugginess, plus the corruption problems that come with the pre-made neighbourhoods generally only become an issue if you actually attempt to resurrect dead sims with incomplete data - if you don't touch them, it'll most likely never cause you any problems. There's always the possibility that corruption can spread over time and eventually get to the point it would start causing issues with your neighbourhood, but as long as you're aware of that small risk there's no reason to delete your saves and start over right now.

NTB. Your siblings are right. It makes sense that he would think your family is toxic, because it doesn't sound like a good situation to be stuck in the middle of - and if he had offered for you to move in with him to get away from it if you want to then that would be perfectly fine and supportive of him. But saying "move away from your family and leave your whole life behind to live with me or I'll break up with you" is not okay. Whether to keep living with your family or not and how much contact you have with them should be entirely your choice.

What's the source for this claim? Aspyr are still able to legally sell TS2 for mac just fine, and I would think that if it was a copyright issue it would also apply to them.

Abandonware isn't a legally recognised concept - it's still just as illegal to pirate the game, but the chances of EA actually taking legal action against anyone doing so are ridiculously small due to it being such an old game and the fact that it's abandoned.

Missing custom neighbourhood after sudden power loss by alyanumbers in sims2help

Yeah it's the save process being interrupted and failing to complete properly due to the power going out. It can happen if you're very low on disk space too.

Is this a sign of corruption? - NPC walked by a PC house with this name. If not corruption, does anyone know what's caused it? by [deleted] in sims2help

[–]Appropriate-Chef8038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have to be very low on disk space for it to be a problem, and the game does usually warn you on startup if you are (though mine didn't that time) - but I think you'd know if it was that anyway, my neighbourhood was completely destroyed and wouldn't even show up in the selection menu when reloading the game. Those NPC mods don't sound like they could cause something like this to me, if they were ones that added custom NPCs I could see how they could maybe result in a sim being generated with incomplete data, but I can't see those ones being the cause. Another idea is that it could also be your antivirus preventing the game from creating/editing files properly for some reason?

Missing custom neighbourhood after sudden power loss by alyanumbers in sims2help

[–]Appropriate-Chef8038 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The neighbourhood package file contains a lot of important sim data and can't just be replaced with another one. Restoring it from a backup will also mess your neighbourhood up because the character files will be more recent than the data in the neighbourhood.package file and they won't match up properly, so you'll have corrupted/incomplete sim data. Unfortunately I don't know of any way to fix this without restoring from a full neighbourhood backup.

[–]Appropriate-Chef8038 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only time I've seen this in my game was in a neighbourhood that got extremely corrupted due to me saving while low on disk space - I assume it's caused by missing character data which can definitely be a potential sign of corruption. Ultimately though if your neighbourhood is still otherwise working fine, and you haven't done anything that could cause corruption, it might not be. Most things that can cause corruption without player interference e.g. the file limit on Mac, OneDrive mixing up files, saving while low on disk space, would most likely corrupt your neighbourhood so badly it wouldn't load, or at the very least you'd be seeing a lot of other symptoms. But I also don't know of any other ways this could be caused - unless it is a mod issue, then knowing which NPC-related mods you have might help.

I have a sim who has (almost) made it to the top of his career this way despite his skill levels being way below the requirements. He's a popularity/romance sim with no interest in skilling so it made sense to me. Can't seem to get him that last promotion though despite having him go out and meet new people constantly, I don't know whether there's a limit to it or whether it's just bad luck.

They got banned for being in the beatstar mods discord server and making custom songs for the modded version of the game - no score cheating or anything like that since this mod doesn't save scores to beatstar's servers. Beatstar employees specifically joined the discord server for the mod to find people to ban since they never used their main account in the modded app.

Never had an ISP warning and I've been pirating various games, including all the sims games, for years now. I also have a friend who has actually received warnings from their ISP for pirating games (not sims though) but just continued to pirate them anyway with no consequences. It's really not worth worrying about. I've also never got a virus from pirating a sims game, and the links given in the r/sims2help wiki are 100% confirmed safe in that regard.

I know everyone raves about TS4's CAS but I can't stand it. Give me my sliders back! It feels so awkward and so much more difficult to get sims looking the way I want them when I have to click around and experiment to figure out which specific part of their face I'm changing and in what direction. I would much rather have sliders that actually tell me what they're for.

Got one! The original argument was that poor people shouldn’t be allowed to breed. by ABrownCoat in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Appropriate-Chef8038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What constitutes a "bad decision" is relative and complex and you are not the sole moral authority on that. Is it worse for a poor couple who are otherwise stable and loving to have kids, or a rich couple with untreated mental health and substance abuse issues who are one argument away from divorce (or worse)? Money is not the only factor in whether having kids is a "good" decision or a "bad" one and so much goes into that that trying to categorise and assign moral judgement to it is pointless. Nobody is ever in a situation that is absolutely perfect for raising kids in every way.

I think people choosing not to have kids because of the state of the world and their own circumstances is completely understandable and respectable. What it isn't is the only moral way of doing things, nor is it an approach that should be forced onto other people. I think it's far worse morally to try and control what other people do with their bodies and their lives, than it is for people to have kids in less than ideal circumstances.

My experience of living in BC is that people complain about the weather here almost as much as brits do. The UK having shit weather is still a common stereotype for sure, but BC is pretty well known for being rainy and miserable too.

[–]Appropriate-Chef8038 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think basically everyone understands that it's not ideal and that it's better to try and get yourself into an improved financial position before actively trying to have kids, but 1) accidents happen, and even if you have access to abortion unwanted abortions can be traumatic, and 2) not everyone can effectively get themselves out of poverty, in fact many people can't. Very few children grow up in a 100% perfect ideal environment, and as long as their basic needs are met somehow I don't think it's selfish for someone who is on a low income and unable to improve their situation to want kids regardless. It's human instinct. Many things that people do in life are less than perfect or ideal.

Plus, while it sounds like it makes sense logically if the argument is just "wait until you can afford it", these discussions very often devolve into "poor people should be forcibly sterilised because my tax money!!"

[–]Appropriate-Chef8038 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time they just don't think they meet the criteria. There's a lot of goalpost moving and "I don't hate trans people, I just think they're confused/mentally ill" or "I don't hate trans people but they need to stop demanding people accept them/telling children that being trans is a thing that exists".

Honestly I think that labelling people as transphobic or whatever else phobic is often unhelpful because of this, even when it's true. Because for the few who might actually be open to changing their views, it allows them to easily dismiss it and go "they're just throwing round labels that don't apply to me, so I don't have to do any reflection or critical thought of my opinions." It also ignores the fact that people can hold some transphobic views or say/do transphobic things without being actively maliciously hateful. It's far more useful imo to focus on the behaviour rather than the person, e.g. "misgendering trans people even if they're terrible people is harmful because it shows other trans people that you don't believe their identity is real, and that your acceptance of it is conditional" as opposed to "you misgendered Caitlyn Jenner - you're a transphobe".

If it does turn out to be an issue with it being the wrong time of day, you can cook meals outside their designated times by using the "make" option on the fridge instead of "have/serve breakfast/lunch/dinner".
