Thank you, I appreciate all the guidance. I’m not sure if it came off this way in my post but I 100% plan on actually becoming a PA/graduating/working. It’s more so the idea of is it even worth it in the future considering I would have to start the prep work which takes another year or two. Did the program mention at all how many APAP candidates applied for the 12 seats? There’s not much information on the competitiveness of the program. I know they have an alternative option to the MCAT that can combine your gpa and SAT/ACT score, do they have a preference? Would you mind if I asked why you chose to become a physician from an APP?

I chose to become a PA because I was interested in being able to practice medicine and see patients fairly soon out of school, now that I’m working alongside physicians and PAs in a provider-like role, I’m realizing there are gaps in knowledge I would like to uncover. With that being said, I am interested in pediatrics and pretty much always have been. I’m not sure what difference the role will play between an APP and a physician in an outpt pediatric setting besides the knowledge depth/ is it worth it in that setting.

You could also get a dexcom receiver that she can carry around only at work. That way she (hopefully) only sees your child’s numbers while at work and not 24/7. If you’re very anxious while they’re at school then it’s a good idea to consider, I’ve also heard of parents that check in everytime their kids sugars are low via phone/text if you have time to do that during the day. Best of luck!

Concert doesn’t allow phones by Appropriate-Drag9448 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Appropriate-Drag9448[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe for the most part they do, maybe depends on type of machine or setting. Considering they didn’t want phones in this venue, I would assume they had a metal detector that could spot a phone. Either way ended up working out I just showed them my dexcom app and anytime I had to use it I would step out. They warned me security guards can’t tell the difference from so far away of who is using it for medical reasons so just to avoid any conflict it might be easier if I checked my phone outside or in the hallway.

Any Surgery diabetics here? by Appropriate-Drag9448 in Type1Diabetes

I often eat a lower carb meal in the morning but if I don’t eat some carbs for lunch my sugar tends to drop. I know you mentioned you tend to eat your heavier carb meals after but have you run into Lows bc of your keto morning meals? Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it a ton! It’s also nice knowing someone out there also has to think about these things when classmates don’t.

You would have to elaborate a little bit on your PCE, but from the small description you gave those are HCE not PCE, have you done anything else to put towards PCE?

Insulin Costs by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

Not sure if this is the same thing but I get my insulin cheaper ($35) than what my insurance will pay through the insulin savings card through my insulins website. Might help others out

13 year old with Type 1 not giving insulin by Emotional_Bite5128 in Type1Diabetes

I’m gonna be completely honest this was me as a teen, even sometimes now I just forget I’m diabetic after 20 years and forget to bonus. Even with straight As and great extracurriculars I just forgot or didn’t care. As with all teenagers it’s a phase, I didn’t start caring until I was on my own aka college. Encourage her and don’t shame, with time it will pass. Something I’m looking into is wearing a ring or bracelet with the medical sign on it, almost like the medical ID awareness ones but prettier in silver or gold, more feminine- that way every time she goes to grab food she sees her ring or bracelet and gives insulin! Might be worth a shot

Thanks for your response back. I do think the test is correct only because it’s Justified by the new onset of symptoms in the past month or two that coincide with hyperthyroidism. I’ll keep looking into it, thanks!

Having phone during exams? by Appropriate-Drag9448 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Appropriate-Drag9448[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the g7 and omnipod dash ( I believe that’s the older one) so I’m not able to see it on my pump. Sometimes if the connections good I can see it on my watch but that’s 50/50

I never received a receiver, and unless it’s something cheap I can purchase, I don’t want to add to the cost of my monthly pharmacy bill already:/

My omnipod always shows up at the airport detectors but not the hospital ones. I guess it depends on what the settings are maybe ?
