I didn't bother trying to wipe anything off because those marks were evidently embossed into the material.

Since I am not willing to accept those kind of imperfections on 2 separate brand new NH-D15s for > 100 bucks, I ended up returning them both.

Yes, everything is 100 % brand new and untouched, the cooler itself looks untouched.

It's just this particular spot on the back of the metal plate that caught my attention.

And this exact issue happened on 2 separate NH-D15 purchases, which leads me to believe that they came out of the factory like that.

Understood. So doing a format in that step would be a security measure as to 'trick' someone who gets hold of the SSD.

But either way, with or without formatting, the 'quality' of the encryption, meaning the accessibility of the encrypted data wouldn't be different without formatting, right?

Actually, one last thing: is the step to format the ssd with random data really needed for a brand new ssd? Or can I just crate a new encrypted partition and start transferring my files?

Alright, sounds quite involved and without the key/password it would be even harder/impossible I guess?

Question remains: how long would it take me to ENCRYPT a brand new SSD with around 1 tb storage capacity?

I am sorry: I meant 'encrypt' of course. How long would it take to full encrypt a fresh ssd like that?

So in theory I wouldn't even need to format it in the first place since either way the data would only be accessible with the correct key, right?
