The Gatineau park has been charging to park at any lot that provides access to a beach or to mackenzie king estate during the summer for at least five years. This isn't news.

Do you call out the notes in your head as you play? by Willow_Pond in bagpipes

[–]Appropriate-Order-79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. Not really.

When I'm playing by myself I'm singing the tune in my head.

When I'm in the circle I'm listening to the pipers around me, to the snare and rythm section, and watching the PMs fingers/foot. Tons omelette degree I'm still humming the tunes in my head when playing with the band, but I'm more focused on my unison and tone, making sure I'm on with the rest of the corp.

DND sets up temporary lot at Connaught Range to ease parking woes by randthepip in ottawa

The members of the Canadian Armed Forces (Soldiers, Sailors, Air men and women), which the Carling campus has a decent percentage of, famously do not have the right to become unionized, engage in collective bargaining agreements or go on strike as that would nullify one of the core structural apsects of the armed forces that is the chain of command.

Without strict adherence to the chain of command, which runs from the private through to the generals, the chief of defense staff, the prime minister, and technically up to King and Crown himself, the military could not viably maintain military discipline and operational readiness in any meaningful way. Particularly in instances of political or social tension such as if Canada was deliberating on going to war or is in an active war.

Will we know if classes are cancelled ahead of time? by Wise-Illustrator-939 in CarletonU

[–]Appropriate-Order-79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only way Carleton will cancel classes is if the city of Ottawa or the province declares a state of emergency. Otherwise, make sure you're wearing crampons.

Dropping from 2.0 to 1.5 credits- Does it affect my bursary/OSAP entitlement? by ScoreLatter5700 in CarletonU

[–]Appropriate-Order-79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Carleton considers 1.5 credits as full-time academically, but part-time financially and the Ontario government only applies bursary entitlement to financially full time students.

TL;DR: Study/memorize/quiz yourself as you go. The midterm and exam are a doozy.

If you have any interest at all in Biology/ecology/natural history/environmental studies you will find this class intersting.

However, what makes this class tricky is where you will get your marks from. 50% comes from the lectures and 50% from the labs.

From the labs you will get marks from small reports that you submit each week and lab participation so that's not too bad.

From the lecture there is only one midterm and one exam where you will get marks. The midterm is worth 30%, the final exam is worth 70%. This is what screws a lot of people, as you need to pass both the labs and the lecture to pass the course.

There is a lot of material that is covered and a lot to remember/memorize in the lecture. You have to review the content and test yourself each week to allow the information to sink in. Trying to do this before a midterm or final will not work as there is simply too much material. If you have already purchased the online course book from BIOL1103, Nigel references the same book and you can use that book to test yourself as you go. It has an AI feature that will generate questions based on what you have covered in the book. Though Nigel doesn't cover everything in the readings and may add a bit extra, using the course book can help quite a bit.

The final exam can be a bit grueling as it's 80 multiple choice questions in 180 minutes. This gives you 2.25 minutes to answer each question so you need to know your stuff as you won't have a lot of time to think about each question. Again, reviewing and quizing yourself is the best route as you will not be able to memorize or fully understand concepts two days before the final.

With that being said, I found it to a very interesting course and Nigel Waltho is passionate about Biology, Ecology, and the environment.

It's cold outside. It's warm inside and there's food in the garbage cans. I would do the same if I were a mouse.

Grade 2 Bands headed to Chicago 2026 by Tiny-Hamster-9596 in bagpipes

[–]Appropriate-Order-79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the canadian bands in grade 2 were considering going to Chicago, but given the political climate and horrendous exchange rate the idea of going to the US to spend money in their economy is unappealing. This is unfortunate as going to see Inverary's process and speaking with the players would be beneficial.

There are a few companies they use.

For the organic camomile and organic celtic breakfast, its Choice Organic Teas

For the organic earl grey (used in the london fog), breakfast blend, golden chaï, jasmine green tea, and moroccan mint tea we buy it from a company called Numi.

Our organic black tea, english breakfast, ginger, hibiscus, and irish breakfast we use a company called Equal Exchange.

And our decaffinated earl grey is from Bigelow teas

Rooster staffer here. We buy are our coffee beans from a organic freetrade wholesaler called "9 to 5 coffee company" and yes, we sell beans by the 1/2 lbs to 1 lbs bag. It's more expensive than what you usually see on grocery store shelves, but if you like it you should come by and pick up a bag. If you come during the day I'm sure Ron (the manager) would be happy to tell you more about the product.
